Figure some of you Beechwood guys would like what the author of these does... he really does a great job putting these together for nearly every game

One of the things I am most excited about for the Beechwood players is they get a chance to have the state spotlight on them in this game. To recognize these players and help people know players to watch for Beechwood, here is a viewer's guide to the Tigers.

 

#12 QB Kyle Fieger - Fieger may be the most underrated QB in N. Ky. history. He is the leader or near the top of many of the career passing records in N. Ky. over names like Barker, Guidugli, Towles, etc. He has over 100 career TD's and I believe less than 10 INT's in his career. He is very smart reading defenses and a very accurate passer. He also is an elusive runner when he needs to run, although he doesn't run often.

 

#14 WR/LB Brett Slusher - Some players are just great, instinctual players and that is Slusher. He does it all for the Tigers. With the loss of Ethan Stringer to injury, he has taken on the load running the ball when Beechwood needs a power back. He will make plays in the championship game that will make fans say wow. It could be on defense creating a turnover, a great catch and run from WR or a running play where he shows that he is the fastest player on the field.

 

#17 Ethan Stringer - Injured on the first series of the Frankfort playoff game and out of action since then, Stringer is the third player that makes up Beechwood's big 3 that have been talked about all season. Stringer has good size and excellent speed. Before he was injured, he was leading 1A in rushing over Daric Pugh so that should tell everyone what kind of a RB Stringer is. Stringer also had become an important defensive player this year for Beechwood and will be missed on both sides of the ball in this game if he is unable play.

 

#50 OL/DL Justin Overstreet - If you are a fan of line play, watch Overstreet. You won't be able to miss him on defense when his name keeps getting called making tackles. He will be a very important player at DT as Beechwood tries to contain the powerful Pugh. Don't be surprised if Overstreet at 6'4" 270 lbs. chases down Pugh or Battaille on a play in this game. His speed is excellent for a player his size and he will make plays sideline to sideline.

 

#51 OL/DL Braden Hermes - Hermes has really come on strong in the playoffs. Playing the other DT slot, Beechwood needs another big game from him to stop the Pikeville running attack.

 

#19 End/DE Lucas Benson - Benson is another player that has taken his game to another level in the playoffs. He has made big catches at end and his play at DE in these playoffs has been spectacular.

 

#22 RB/WR/DB Aiden Justice - Justice has big play potential every time he touches the ball. Extremely elusive and fast, Russellville found out how elusive and fast he is when Justice cut and sprinted his way through the Russellville defense for the clinching TD in the semi-final game.

 

#32 WR/DB Logan Castleman - Castleman is the first Beechwood freshman to start for the Tigers from the opening game of the season in at least 25 years. He has proven why he deserved it. He has returned interceptions for TD's, made big catches for scores, been sure handed returning punts and kickoffs and last week was called on to run the ball to help the offense replace Stringer. Sorry 1A fans, you will be hearing this name prominently for Beechwood for 3 more years.

 

#44 RB/LB Trevor Soward - Soward has improved greatly since the start of the year and he will be needed in this one. He was injured early in the Russellville game and did not return. Hopefully he is healed and ready. He also was being called on at RB to try and fill the Stringer void. Soward has the size to be a powerful runner and that size will be needed on defense to contain Pugh.

 

Other key players:

 

#2 DB Jacob Cottingham - A CB with size who has become a good cover man and likes to hit.

 

#11 DB Elijah McKenney - CB with excellent technique as just a sophomore.

 

#7 K Mario German - A strong leg who puts the ball near the end zone with hang time and can get the ball to the end zone. Capable of hitting field goals from 40 yards on in.

 

#52 OL/DL Joey Sherron - Strong player who will need to play big on the DL.

 

#56 OL/DL Kyle Rowe - Rowe is another key lineman who will make plays as Beechwood rotates players on the DL.

 

Of course there are more players who all fill their roles and are keys to getting a team to a championship game. I look forward to seeing some of them make plays in this game that cause people to ask why I didn't list them here.

 

This should be a great game. It is so much fun to finally be back in the championship game.

Remember you said Beechwood's only chance is if they play like the past State Champion teams. SMH If they play like that then Pikeville doesn't have a chance.

I have seen Beechwood play over the past few years and know what they are capable of, and from watching these videos post on Pikeville, I am excited about this game. Im thinking it will be a tight one in the first half. looking forward to it.

Pikeville wins 20-14.

Pikeville has a nice QB and some size at all positions. Jarrell at WR is a dangerous deep threat and Pugh is just a mule of a back. I'd say this Pikeville team is about 3 TDs better than the Ironton team Beechwood played earlier in the year. This should be a great game. Best of luck to both teams.

After watching video and thinking this through, I like Beechwood's chances.

 

- Beechwood's defensive line versus Pikeville's offensive line is the key matchup in the game. Daric Pugh is going to run between the tackles. If his line can't create openings and get blocks on linebackers, he is going to find the yardage tough to come by. Pikeville really needs to control the clock with Pugh to keep the Beechwood offense off the field.

 

- If Beechwood doesn't turn the ball over, they are going to score more points on Pikeville than any other team Pikeville faced this year. Beechwood's passing attack is different than any passing attack Pikeville has seen.

 

- It looks to me like Beechwood is going to have a speed advantage. You never know for sure till the teams get on the field but it sure looks like the speed is on Beechwood's side.

 

- If Pikeville turns to the air, I think Beechwood is going to intercept at least one pass against Battaile. I expect Battaile's stats to be closer to his stats against Belfry than his stats in his other games.

 

- Depending on how the line of scrimmage battle goes, this could be a tight game down to the wire or a solid Beechwood win. If Pikeville wins, it will be a close score and they will win the turnover battle.

 

I will go with Beechwood 35 Pikeville 13.

only issue I see is a typo for left defensive tackle for beechwood: #51 as actually Braden Hermes

Since Stringer isn't playing I think the gap tightens a good bit.

 

Both teams create matchup issues for each other with their balance on Offense, with that said I have no doubt the order of business in practice on this short week has been DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE

 

Pulling for a Panther win...but I will say

Pugh get his... Pikeville gets some big stops on D...but in the end Beechwood changes the game with a couple big plays and ride field position to a couple short drives.
