09 was extremely impressive.

That team outscored opponents 422 to 79 which included 6 shutouts. The most points allowed in any single game was 13 to Christian County, Newport Catholic and Cawood. This team also defeated CovCath twice that year by identical scores and I would argue that this might have been the best team that CovCath ever had in football. They are discounted because of the fact that they did not win state that year.

 

'82 may not be the best of all time, but I would take that defensive unit against anyone everyday of the week.

I might be misremembering but I was thinking that HHS finished their season ranked 2nd and then was passed by a team who's playoffs finished later in December.

Your memory serves you well. That is correct.

I wont comment on which one was the best, but I will say that there was some pretty good football played at Highlands during the late 90's and early 00's. From the Jared to Derek connection, to watching Hamblen make entire defenses look like they were stuck in mud, to watching Gino absolutely dismantle a Trinity defensive back on the Trinity sideline, it would be hard to argue against those years being some of the best during Highlands storied past.

Those years are my homies. Going to the game Friday with a mixed bag of late 90s players!

I feel like 98 is the best because it really encompasses 98, 99, and 00. 00 was extremely senior heavy. 98 had the likes of Jared and Derek but also had Grover and Hamblen.

I have to go with the 1998 team as well. They frankly looked like men against boys in most games. Scored 801 points (53 per game). Did not play a close game in the playoffs. 2009 was really good too and I remember the 82 team well. Not a bad choice either. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately:)), I am not old enough to have seen the 57 team but that one sounds special too. But for the teams I have seen, I have to go with 98.

To many great teams to only have 1 great. A few favorites would be "43 (they also beat Cincy St. X and won a Mythical State Championship), '68, '70, and my favorite '09.

 

 

I would say '75, but they lost to Campbell County in the last game of the season.:lol2:
