PurplePride92 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I think this one is the game of the week right behind Trinity/Male. Having seen both Central and LexCath I honestly have no clue who will win. Especially since LexCath is going Ohio State on KY High School Football with three, yes, three more than capable QBs to throw at opposing teams. Central has a ball hawking opportunistic defense/special teams and they platoon so they will be fresh. I'm sure LexCath platoons also so they will be fresh as well. Watching Ogbogu and Morris vs the Central defense will be a treat for all those able to make the trip to Louisville Central to see this game. Coach Perry is proving to have been a perfect choice to take over the LexCath program. Coach Scroggins is easily one of the best coaches in the state. The coaching staffs on the field next week are top notch coaching staffs and you can bet your bottom dollar that both teams will be fully prepared for the task at hand. This game will be awesome!!!! Like I said, I have zero clue who will win. I will say this though...... the winner of this game will be your 3A champion. That is my bold prediction.
LexTown22 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I'm bias so I have to go with Central! They are playing great ball right now and like you said defense/special teams are making plays. You win those two phases you win the game most of the time. LexCath won't be a pushover so it will be a great game. Just having a hard time deciding which game to attend.... Male/Trinity will be a packed house and Central has some great food lol so tough choice.
Jack Lambert Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 As much as I hate to say it I'll be a Lexington Catholic fan this week if this game were in Lexington I'd go watch it should be a dandy I hope Catholic takes care of business and gets the win.
WestDanville Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I'll take Central by a very small margin 28-27. LC gets an XP blocked and that makes the difference in the game. Really could go either way. It's going to come down to taking care of the football just as all games that have two good teams playing each other do.

We must be getting soft or we are just getting old. Lol lots of respect for Boyle County and that senior class
gchs_uk9 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Central Yellowjackets (10-2) All-time Regional Final Record: 9-3 Lexington Catholic Knights (9-3) All-time Regional Final Record: 6-10 Past Playoff Meetings None
Northerner Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I don't know about you all but I am tire of hearing throughout the season how soft, awful, worst defense that they ever seen, will be beat by a running clock or 2nd year coach Perry and Lex Cath is softer than ever under him. I guess they don't mind being call soft as long as they keep winning. State finalist last 4 season, district champ again this season, and now back in this season regional.
Northerner Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 And for the heck of it. Lex Cath has beaten teams like 51-13, 41-0, 49-14, 43-14, 55-13 and 59-26. And their losses has come in the hands of Ryle- 31-24 and Cooper- 28-0 both in 6A top 5 and Johnson Central- 42-28, who is out of this earth as far as their run game and #1 in the 4A.
ATLCat Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 It all comes down to how much time can LexCath give their QB (s) and if the LexCath signal caller(s) can hurt them with their feet. There is nothing soft about the way Central plays their secondary. They are a big play secondary and they are going to play a Hard Man Defense and try to get in your backfield before your WR can get open. They either want to get the sack, create a penalty, or force you to make a hurried throw in hopes of picking it off. I am sure the LexCath fans have been following my comments about Central leading up to Boyle..but it has to be said again... DO NOT TURN THE BALL OVER OR FALL ASLEEP IN SPECIAL TEAMS. Scroggins is hands down, no questions asked, simply the best Coach in Kentucky at Coaching sudden change points. What LexCath has that Boyle did not is guys who can negate the speed advantage Central has on most teams outside the tackles and can make the big play in the open field. If LexCath can provide enough time for these guys to work free the yards will be there, but the problem is Central should have a field day up front against the Knights from what I have seen. What will easily help cancel out this advantage is: A) Can Catholic find some semblance of a run game? You can run on Central because they are so aggressive and their Defense is designed to play sideline to sideline. You have to be deliberate and your back has to be fearless. The Read Option may be there...but also be prepared to see some -4 yard plays. If the run is established everything else opens up. B) Start them short. Screens, quick hitters, shallow crossing routes, slants. If you can freeze their Front 7 with quick passes and complete those passes it will free up the deep shot. Be smart though...high risk of Pick 6 here...execution has to be flawless. C) Find creative ways to get chunk yards. Design some QB draws or QB run outs. You can empty out an entire side of the field with Central's style of play... but if you do it your QB better be ready to make a play with his feet to avoid a big loss. If you hurt Central a few times like this you will help freeze some of their LB'ers. Easier said than done... I really am having a hard time handicapping this one. I pretty much knew what to expect against Boyle and it was clear that game would be payed within a tight window. I literally can see this matchup swinging 3 TD's either way. This may be crazy talk, but I could just as easily see Central winning easily as seeing them win by a missed XP. I also could see LexCath winning easily or winning close. As a Belfry fan I secretly am pulling for LexCath because I think Belfry matches up better with them potentially than Central. I also kind of enjoy seeing the old guard in 3A do their thingafter all the talk of how the new additions will change the scope for good. I am going to err on the side of the team who has won 5 Titles since 2007 playing on their home field. I'll take Central by 4
ATLCat Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 And for the heck of it. Lex Cath has beaten teams like 51-13, 41-0, 49-14, 43-14, 55-13 and 59-26. Few points of clarification Cooper and Ryle are Top 10 in 6A, but neither are Top 5. They finished #7 and #8 respectively in BGP's 6A Rankings. Johnson Central is #2 in 4A technically. That "Out of the Earth" run game also struggled to gain 100 yards against fellow 3A Belfry in a 41-0 loss. I would consider Central's Defense as good if not better than any of the teams the Knights have seen thusfar. Offensively, probably put them 3rd or 4th by a slim margin.
