Off Duty Danville Police Officer Boards School Bus To Confront Student

Featured Replies

Evidently an older boy had touched his daughter's hair. The officer boarded the bus and confronted 2 boys about it. He reported it himself and has been placed on leave while the incident is investigated. It isn't mentioned in the article but in the comments someone notes that he used his cruiser to pull the bus over.

You just can't fix "knee jerk" stupid sometimes.

What did this father, who has a tremendous responsibility to the community in his job, think he was going to accomplish by handling this situation in this manner? :idunno:

Didn't a civilian in Pulaski County get charged with several counts of kidnapping for a similar incident?

Did he touch the kids or just talk/lecture them?

Seems like a case of "not smart but as a parent I get it."

Glad he self-reported. Slap him on the wrist and move on.

Would it be okay for a regular citizen to stop a bus to confront students that they were upset with?

I know this guy. He's a good guy who clearly overreacted. Hopefully he doesn't lose his job

Again, not good. Poor judgement. You can't use your job as an excuse to get on a bus and scold a kid. What if the girl was lying? Exaggerating?

He should have gone through the proper channels. No officer is above the law and schools remove kids from the bus all the time. Just sure a poor decision but an individual who by all means is probably a good guy who made an awful judgment call.

Power. Trip.

You have kids?

If someone bullies or bothers your daughter over and over this is your first reaction...to confront them. I'm not saying he is right in the way he handled it but I get wanting to do something about it.

This isn't about a power trip as much as its about a ticked off dad...

I don't have kids, but trust me, I 100% understand the Dad aspect of this. Don't blame him at all for wanting to confront the kid. I will be the same way when I have kids.

The power trip is using your police cruiser while you're off duty to pull over a bus to confront a kid.

Another parent would have been charged with something. Same should apply here.

Lets clarify something:

The issue is that this dad confronted the kids on the school bus correct?

The other issue is that this dad is a Police officer correct?

What if this dad confronted the kids, not on the school bus, but out in public, while out of uniform?

Another parent would have been charged with something. Same should apply here.

At first I was going to bust on the bus driver for letting him on. However, if he pulled up in his cruiser and had his uniform on then I can see why they let him on.
