His shtick is that he argues like someone who posts in the comment section Pro Football Talk (or perhaps, as a registered user on BGP); poor spelling, "strong takes" and all. You are absolutely right. Because if Hitler was never born, it is absolutely impossible that some other frustrated German would have risen to power in Nazi Germany. Hitler was the only German who was upset about the WWI sanctions, so no one else would have risen up.

The majority of the articles that cited the things you referred to were media-driven and not peer-reviewed scientific studies. The overwhelming majority of scientific papers predicted the global warming due to CO2 buildup, which we now see evidence of. Science predicted correctly. I remember articles in Time and Newsweek in the '70's that said what you stated. I'd say Time and Newsweek sold a lot of magazines. The vast majority of scientific papers got it right. I'll take it up in another thread sometime.

I remember that when I was a freshman in high school, the school actually shut down for two days due to Iben Browning's prediction that a major earthquake would occur on the New Madrid fault. Still waiting for the quake but at least I enjoyed those two free days.

I have no idea what Ben Carson's reasons are, but fundamentally, no one knows what kind of a person a baby will grow up to be before they are born. This isn't a question you can ask legitimately.

I've mentioned this (admittedly simplistic) belief that I have on the nature vs. nurture issue. Nature gives everyone a rubber band. Different for everybody.

 

Nurture determines how far it stretches.

This is such a simplistic argument that has been used over and over. No one is trying to prove anything to you. You are the one questioning other people's beliefs. When you question them the burden is on you not them.

 

I've probably heard this quote a thousand times in some form and is the generic response every atheist wants to say to someone who has faith.
