To be fair, the coaches and AD's voted to make the 6 Class System. It's their fault.

 

But, the KHSAA gave them three choices, not two, which watered down the majority vote. That's the KHSAA's fault.

 

Yes, but they originally passed a public/private split. State legislators stopped it and sent it back to the KHSAA to solve the issue. So 6 classes was the end result.

The 4 class system also had 0-10 teams make the playoffs due to being in a 4 team district (cross district had 8 teams). Wasn't a perfect world then either. Just food for thought.

Everyone doesn't. I know a 1-9 team that didn't nor did they deserve to.

This is exactly why KHSAA screwed up massively when they went to 6 classes. Winning a state championship will always be a huge significance but I value them far less now than when teams were winning them during the time period of 4 classifications. I can't understand why Kentucky has 6 classes and teams with no wins make the playoffs. Some people who are in power really need to push to bring it back down to 4 classes, because it really waters down the legitimacy of some of the past champions.

It's already a huge advantage for the big schools in Louisville and making it 4 classes will only hurt more schools. What they need is what other states have and hat is separate Catholic leagues etc and public. Never understood why it is such a big resistance to that in KY.

I'll never understand how some can justify 0-10 teams making the playoffs. Never.

The term "playoffs" implies that something was done to earn a spot. Just call it "the postseason".

Only KHSAA could devise a system where a winless team is a 3 seed in a 4 team district set-up. ( See Boone Co HS )

 

Or a one win team is the 2 seed and hosts a "playoff" game.

 

The KHSAA either needs to let every team in and call it a post-season or make the playoffs a reward for a good season.

That's right, this is done to avoid having hearts broken. An 0-10 team will feel so much better and such a sense of accomplishment after taking a nice bus ride, getting blasted and falling to 0-11. Yep, that's the reason.

 

Its OK to not like the system. I'm not a fan myself. But let's stop getting carried away with the everyone gets a trophy, entitlement, we're not teaching our kids the right lessons talk. It's a football game. It ain't changing anyone's life, and it ain't setting a kid on a winless team up for future failure in life. Stop making this out to be more than it is.
