Shout Out To the 3-Sport Athletes

Featured Replies

Nothing new to hear that specialization of sports has killed the 3-sport athlete of yesteryear. Not really interested in the "why" of it. Just wanted to give a shoutout to those that take advantage of high school athletics to the fullest.

Figured we'd give them personal shoutouts.

Off the top of my head I can think of two at the varsity level: Kyler Padgett at Conner and AJ Mayer at CCH.

Who else?

I can't think of a wrestler/baseball player during the years I hung around my alma mater.

Owen finke (jr) Covington Holy cross. Starting Linebacker in football, diving, and baseball.

Isaac Kelly is a sophomore at Lewis County and got the starting QB job about halfway through the season. He was also the 6th man on Lewis County's basketball team as a freshman last season and is expected to be a key player for the Lions baseball team this season. Needless to say, us in LC are excited to see what Mr. Kelly brings to the table for us the next three years.

Before this season, since he's graduating in December to enroll at UK early, I hear Kash Daniel was also the starting power forward for Paintsville's basketball team and bat cleanup for the baseball team.

Geordan is really something else and a super kid to boot. Once football ends he begins to cut weight for wrestling. After he won the state title in wrestling last year he was out on the diamond taking cuts and fielding ground balls the very next day. He played on a summer traveling baseball team out of Huntington, WV until the start of football season. For him to be able to seamlessly transition from one sport to the next really speaks volumes on how well rounded of an athlete he is and the same is applicable for probably all of these young men that will be mentioned. For each of these individuals to live their high school experience to the fullest will provide them with lifelong memories to look back upon.

Ray Zuberer QB Owensboro Catholic

Football- Lead the state in passing for 2 years. Why he hasn't made all state yet. Idk. I guess he needs to be comitted to UK.

Baseball- comitted to WKU

Basketball- Phenominal Shooter. Dad won a national Title at KWC.

What about a 4 sport athlete? Is there even any way to do that? Like, football, basketball, baseball and wrestling or track? I don't know when wrestling season is. Or lacrosse?

I have a ton of respect for the 2 and 3 sport kids. Especially kids who are really good at all sports. Those pure, athletic specimens are such a joy to get to see when they are doing well. Kind of like Bo Jackson.

Dont forget about Tyler Pack at Johnson Central. All State Kicker. All Region Soccer Goalie and Striker, 3 Straight Trips to Rupp Arena on the basketball Court and a key player on this years team (starter - had key double double in regional championship last season).

Geordan is great as well!

Josiah Robbins-Boyle County

QB for the football team and considered a Mr. Football candidate by many.

Wing for the basketball team and has been an important part of the team since his freshman year.

Infielder for the baseball team and has been playing varsity baseball since his 8th grade year. Many think that baseball is his best sport and where his future lies.

I think Drew Davis at Mercer County is a 3 sport athlete. I know he is the QB for the football team, a starter on the basketball team since 8th grade and if I am not mistaken his is pretty good at tennis and has played some tennis in high school. I'm not sure if he still plays tennis though.

Great topic! Love hearing this kind of thing still exists and some interesting combinations of sports!

Junior Bradley Greene of Highlands come to my mind. "Lightning in a Bottle" A little on the Undersized but if he has any Space it's Bye-Bye! A very good multi sport Athlete.
