Al Golden Fired at Miami (FL)

Butch or Herman. Let's be real Strong isn't coming. Chud, while a great coach may or may not do well in college. Not like he's a huge name.

Schiano may or may not be a great fit. Think he may not fit the culture of what Miami needs, but may be what they want.

Cristobal is a huge no thank you. I'd rather have Smart or even Kiffin.

Here is an article with some names. Marks Stoops was a name that came up a few times, which when you think about it would make complete sense.

He has built ties in the Miami area while being the DC at FSU from 2010-2012 and being the DB's coach at Miami from 2001-2003.

For one, the ties to the program and area as a whole. Secondly, his recruiting to UK we all know about, just think at what he could do at a place like Miami. Third, he has Kentucky program competing, winning and expecting to play for a bowl game. Last, but not least, I'd be shocked if Miami has the finances to go pay a big gun in the 4-6 million range, but they could give Stoops a little more and at the worst match his pay here at UK.

The ability to win and win big compared to here at UK is of no comparison.

University of Miami - 2015

Serious question: given that Notre Dame and Southern Cal are basically the only private schools to have significant national success in football over several decades since the era when Yale and Harvard were winning titles, is it possibly time to start thinking not about what will bring Miami back, but whether it's really all that likely to happen?

For every ND or USC, there are six or seven programs like Duke, Northwestern, Syracuse, or Vanderbilt. Heck, most of the private schools with football either cancelled their programs or dropped them down a level years and years ago.

Perhaps their success was more of an aberration than we're willing to admit.

Location alone makes Miami different. They are always going to be one coach and a couple recruiting classes away from being a threat...

Great points.

I listen to Sirius/XM College Sports for most all of the CFB season. This afternoon I caught part of "The Playbook" with Jack Arute and Butch Jones, and a caller more or less made those exact points.

Do or Die for the program with this hire.

I never thought I'd see Baylor become what they are being a private school. I think there is still much hope for The U, but that needle is running towards 'E' faster and faster it seems.

The real life land of your avatar, all over the place.

Miami won titles over the course of three decades with four different coaches, including one after massive probation. That isn't significant success? Realistically should have been 7 titles given the PSU and OSU games.

Miami hired two coordinators and an up and comer that didn't pan out. If they had hired Gary Patterson when they hired Randy Shannon all of this would be insignificant.

I have heard lots of speculation from the media, but nothing from Julio Frenk, president of the university. He's a Harvard man, very dedicated to academics. It will be very interesting to see how the money side of this plays out.

You mean one booster, if they bring that back they can win.

I just sat in 2 hours of traffic and have a major headache, your new avatar is making it a little better. Thank you!

Nevin Shapiro was after the last crew of Miami talent. His help has led to Miami never winning the Coastal or being a 10 game winner.

I still think Cristobal is the guy.

I personally would be patient with this hire. While Cristobal is a solid candidate, I would like to see if Charlie Strong remains at Texas. Talk about a win-win scenario IMO
