I thought that might have been where you heard it. I also heard Dickey say this on KSR about an hour or so after the game but it was inaccurate.

If you mean they haven't played teams as good as those two I completely disagree with you.

 

I think you missed a key word in the bolded statement. I'll let you and 15th hash that out though.

As for pulling the starters early, fans were confused as well.... I think it has something to do with both head coaches being close friends and College teammates. But this does the Seniors on this team playing for Scholarships no favors. Many of these guys are trying to find a way to pay for their College education, but barely play half a football game each week. In a normal situation, most of their stats would be at least double what they are now by this point in the season...

 

They could always go play for Warren Central or Greenwood. I believe their starters starters may stay on the field for the majority of their games. I could be mistaken though.

 

Seriously though, I am a big proponent of scoring as many points as you can regardless of the opponent or time on the clock. At the same time I understand why many teams pump the brakes. Especially teams that have aspirations of playing into December. I can't say I blame any coach for pulling his starters to avoid season changing injuries and I also appreciate the strategy of getting other players experience just in case someone does get hurt. I understand your point about scholarships but if a kid is only using game tapes and game stats to get a scholarship then that may be a problem within itself. All of the kids I know that have played football and gotten scholarships to play did a whole lot more than use game tapes and game stats to receive those scholarships.

 

I get your point but I think it is unfair to the coaches to have that burden of choosing garbage time stats for a kid's scholarship over the overall team's future success.

4a has nothing SW should sleepwalk to a title

I totally agree they should win 4A championship. I drove down when they played Central Hardin I thought Central had a pretty good defense. Lost 21 to 3 if I remember right. We held South to less than 200 yards offense but they held us to less than 100 yards offense. At that time Central had no passing game to go to and it killed us. Thankfully the passing game looks much better now. Don't see them getting beat.

Your antipathy to the 606 has blinded you. Believe it or not, mountain kids can play too. The only reason you haven't seen JC playing for a couple state titles is Highlands. Not saying SW isn't a great team, but if you're so great in the west, why weren't you playing and beating Belfry for the 3A state title recently? Because if you think Belfry's top-notch, JC's right there with them. Maybe better. I personally really hope we (even if it's Ashland) get a shot to show the west exactly what they've been missing. Pulaski and Belfry already showed you. Now it's 4A's turn.

I have to agree with doubletake about the scholarship issue. Something tells me that when SW coach played at Boyle . This probably wasn't the case. I would say his dad understood the importance of playing his son as much as he could. Without jeopardizing his health. I'm sure he knew showcasing his sons ability was VERY IMPORTANT to college scouts. I would like to see his minutes as a college atheletes compared. Compared to his players under him . Just sayin

No one sleepwalks to a title especially SW who underachieved the last two seasons in 3A.

It will not be a cake walk for SW.As a program they are learning how to get there .The mental aspect of getting there is the hardest I for one think this group will get it done .i also think out of SW,JC and John Hardin that will be your 4a contenders for quite a long time .at least as long as they are in 4a .

As of now JC and Ashland should meet up again to decide the East. SW "cakewalks" from the West. Either matchup in the final would be a War and a GREAT game. Theirs a lot of football to be played between now and then for either of those matchups to take place. Personally think Ashland or JC would win but that's my opinion and why they play the games. JCs running game if you have not played against it is very hard to handle. Ashland has the best RB in the state and is no small feat containing him for 4 quarters.
