September 29, 201511 yr They had someone log in as a player and do his coursework for him. That was one of the allegations Surprise to me is that this sort of thing isn't the norm rather than the exception.
September 29, 201511 yr Didn't they get death in football back in the 80's? Not sure about true death, but they did receive the "death penalty" in the 80s for running a renegade program. Death would certainly get programs's attention.
September 29, 201511 yr These guys should just learn to deny everything and make the NCAA take 8 or 10 years to gather all the facts like they seem to be doing at UNC.
September 30, 201511 yr So my understanding of the case is that an assistant adminstrator and a player had a physical relationship. She did the school work and watched his kid. Did the coaching staff direct her to do it? Did they know ? Those are the questions I have. If not I don't know how Brown can be criticized . I also don't like the punishment of punishing players who did nothing wrong. Fine the school or fire anyone involved but the punishment on players is a joke.

September 30, 201511 yr Go read all the violations in the NCAA press release. Regardless of what it says I still don't like punishments that hurt the kids more than anyone. If Brown knew he should be fired. But not allowing scholarships that could change kids lives or banning kids who didn't break rules to play in the post season is a joke.

But not allowing scholarships that could change kids lives or banning kids who didn't break rules to play in the post season is a joke. Well, that's true but the problem is this...SMU has now had more NCAA trouble than any other school...ever. And Larry Brown has now had infractions at 3 different programs.

September 30, 201511 yr Michael Decoursey of Sporting News tweet: It's amusing people think when UCLA went on probation in early 80's because of something associated with Larry Brown. Use your imagination, folks.
September 30, 201511 yr Vitale says Brown should be banned from coaching college basketball. Vitale also said Bruce Pearl was screwed over and that Brown got off easy compared to Pearl.
September 30, 201511 yr Vitale says Brown should be banned from coaching college basketball. Vitale also said Bruce Pearl was screwed over and that Brown got off easy compared to Pearl. I shouldn't comment on either Brown or Pearl (although I think Vitale is a moron) but do think the NCAA's issue for years has been consistenty and timeliness in their adjudication of sentences. It's clear to most people that what happened at UNC is way worse than what SMU did or what happened with Pearl at UT or the guy at Southern Mississippi but yet all we hear is crickets.
October 2, 201511 yr WOW What UNC did was about 10 yrs more and 10 times as bad. And what do they get. Jack Crap. The NCAA is about as gutless as the KHSAA
