No problem. :thumb:

Good game it sounds like.

It's a win, but very ugly! Way to many penalties. We just ain't clicking on offense.

Blown scoring chances, missed field goals and a driving rain.

Good win for us. You should be pleased. You said in the prediction thread we would be lucky to win.

I agree but our defense is clicking and is very solid!

When all's said and done, Corbin will make a deep playoff run. Don't be surprised if they make it to the semi-finals. Outside of Belfry, not sure who else would be favored over Corbin from the east side in 3a.

After a little sleep here is my quick thoughts of this one from a Mayfield arm chair QB prospective. Corbin is very physical, nice defensive ends too! Looking out at the 2 teams made me laugh at how much larger the Hounds were. The Cards had chances to end this thing earlier in the night but it was not to be and as long as Corbin kept it close the more they fed of it. The Cards didn't necessarily play that bad and had some issues with Corbin's much larger lines on both sides. This is something that appears to me to be improving but is a still a work in progress. Despite not playing well, MF on offense missed on multipe chances that likely change the course of this game. I do note that the rain was heavy and clearly impacted both offenses as was evident from the number of fumbles and drops by both teams. After the game, MF QB noted that the int he threw from deep in our territory was a direct result of the wet ball slipping causing him to under throw Kennemore who had beat his double coverage and was streaking down the field and would have had a easy TD but instead set Corbin up deep in our territory.

On the opening possession for MF we get stopped around the 2 yardline and opt for the FG but a poor snap results in the easy FG being missed. At this point early it is raining heavy and Corbin had 1 believe 3 fumbles but managed to recover them all. WE had one and lost giving Corbin field position in Cards territory. We missed a couple more passes in the first half that would have been large gains or TD's. Likewise Corbin had some open passes dropped that could have greatly aided their offense. The Corbin QB was something like 2-12 on the night but passing for 3 quarters was difficult in the weather conditions. The Cards managed a 14-7 halftime lead thanks to the 2nd Cards TD being courtesy of a Corbin fumble on their own 33 yard. One play later a TD pass got the Cards up 14-7. The 3rd quarter began with a 3 and out for Mayfield and a series of Cards mistakes greatly aided the game being played on the Mayfield side of the field and eventually led to Corbin capitalizing to tie the game. Credit goes to Mayfield's defense, despite Bright and LB Tipia being out, the defense was pretty good. At some point in the 3rd the Cards missed on a 40ish yard field goal that had the distance but was wide and the Cards had a 70ish yard TD pass negated due to offsetting penalties on the play, a holding on Mayfield and a ruffing the passer on Corbin. The rains finally stopped around the start of the 4th quarter and the Cards finally flipped the field which was hard to do as Corbin's punter was great. Arnett found Kevin Caldwell for another TD pass and the Cards defense by this time had really clamped down. Caldwell would eventually run a score in and with the lead at 14 and time running out Corbin was forced to abandon their game plan and their offense was not designed to work from behind and the Cards took home a win.

Observations, Corbin was big and physical up front and that made it tough to run on them, especially without Bright though his replacement, sophomore Tyler had 118 yards on 26 carries. Physical teams like DeSales or CAL should find this favorable but the Cards oline is clearly starting to come around and have looked better each week. All in all I do not think anyone ever had a lot of concern that Mayfield was going to win, it was obvious but there were a lot of frustration with the blown scoring opportunities that could have gave us better breathing room and forced Corbin to get away from their stronger running game. The second half was a thing of beauty for the Cards defense that really stepped it up, especially in the 4th Q. The only blemish being a 30 yard TD run. Corbin is physical and has a nice running game but at this point their passing game needs to improve for the Hounds to advance deep into the 3A playoffs. I got to meet up with my old college room mate, that was fun. This was more of a rambling than good game review, guess I needed more sleep.

Did Corbin play any part in Mayfield's missed opportunities or were they all on Mayfield?

If this game had been played in the mud of a grass field would that have mattered, you have to think the turf was an advantage for Mayfield, would grass/mud instead of turf have made a difference?

Corbin's passing game, was it poor due to bad passes or poor catching or a combo of both?
