Not 1 South Warren Fan has posted in this thread, and not 1 fan brought up the SW vs BG rivalry. I have read all previous post and it seems BG fans are the ones puffing out their chest. Believe it or not I am happy for BG and their success.

IMO there is nothing wrong with a little back and forth banter between fans, but to suggest it is one sided is absurd. Furthermore no one really knows who chose not to schedule who this season, so why don't we just agree to disagree on the circumstances surrounding that situation.

Well there is one correction. Now how about another for him. The "chest puffing" was clearly started with an absurd thread labeled "BG who/ South Warren what" last year after BG's loss to Graves. I havent seen a Purple fan start a thread like that. And who started that thread? Hmmmm.....

Ill join other Purple fans and reel back I guess but I really crave another big rival and DT supports the team to give us the best one. In all seriousness DT you know we Purples respect what Smith and the Spartans are doing. Even while we are "chest puffing"

Confused when there was ever trash talking from either team's players during that game.. But if they did say something to the fans, maybe there should also be a change to fans sitting right up on the endzone line trash talking the players.... Personally, this bothered me the whole game. Not very safe if a player was to run through the back of the endzone and hit bodies, chairs, and umbrellas.

 

Always a tradition of fans in end zone...also have noticed this at other schools...yes some fans did engage in some talk, this I don't condone! We are adults and they are kids! But a couple of BG players initiated a few "conversations " but I won't let one/bad apples spoil the bunch and still tip my hat to BG! Just hope you don't let one/two bad apples spoil bunch for CH fans! Very impressed with BG and not just cause they trounced CH but how they did it with the conditions they played in! Have watched both SW and now BG beat CH and I must say, BG is superior! Good luck to the purples rest of way!

My only point when posting in "THIS" thread is that BG fans always talk about SW fans bringing up BG all the time. This time it was you BG fans who brought SW into the discussion...

At the same whenever you want to admit BG>SW then there won't be a need for any conversation about it all. As long as you won't admit that then it will continue to be brought up when warranted.

I can only give my opinion based on the things I've read on here. I think you've mentioned that Coach Smith offered to play in the Rafferty's Bowl this season, while it's been noted that Bowling Green offered a home and home - I think you indicated Week 10 while Bear3 indicated multiple dates. My opinion based on reading that is this - Coach Smith had no doubts that his team would have a strong chance of winning this season, but perhaps didn't feel that confidence for the following year. He lost two starters from the previous year, and it looks to me that every single starter from the first game of the year with the exception of CJ Hayes, Ryder Litten, and Kayron Namvong were seniors. This year's team has tons of veteran leadership and experience, and next year would be much more of a blank slate. I have no idea of the accuracy of the online roster, but it lists a senior class that is decently larger than the junior class there. They list a larger senior class than that of Bowling Green, and that is saying something when you consider that Bowling Green typically fields huge senior classes. Now, that's all just a guess. I have no insider knowledge of Smith's mindset or anything around the program, just that when I hear of one team offering a home and home, while the other offers only for the first year - a year in which they will be senior laden and experienced, I tend to think that the reason is they don't want the return trip. Whether there is anything wrong with that is in the eye of the beholder. Certainly it can be argued that South is doing just fine without the game, and that it is not necessary for them to win the 4A crown.

Great insight DFire! Another common comeback to the why doesn't BG and South play varsity football was "Why do they need to play". I took this at face value for this entire season really, until I stopped to think that these 2 schools (separated by only a handful of miles) play in EVER other sport. And that includes 7th grade football, 8th grade football, Frosh Football and JV Football. Why not varsity? :idunno:

Sooner or later they will work out a fair deal. There's only a couple of teams that the Purples won't schedule and they are because the coaches don't care for each other. I hope this isn't the case, because if they make it personal, Coach Wallace will never schedule them.

If you are trying to say under the circumstances that it is Smith who didn't want to play .well the other side did PAY NOT TO PLAY Blackmon .if your trying to find some insight

You're right, it's exactly the same situation, what with all the bad blood stuff that happened in the game that was played. Especially considering Bowling Green replaced it by traveling hours to the east to play a team that was a state title contender and ultimately did win state.

 

But let's say that you are right on the nose, and that Bowling Green ducked Blackman because they didn't want to get smashed that second year. Aren't you just supporting my theory as to a team that wants to play the first year and not the second? Are you trying to indicate that Bowling Green was going to okie doke South Warren by playing them the year they were loaded and then bailing on the return game? What sense would that make?

Spin, I think for 2015, you are correct - they just couldn't get it scheduled. It will very interesting to see how this plays out going forward. Because the schools are so close (with hopefully both schools winning State Championships this year), this conversation won't go away for either school or fan base.
