Guys, I'm going to be down around Hazard in a couple weeks and I would like to visit the old Carr Creek School gym. I drove past it and up to the parking lot once, but it was closed and that was 10-15 years ago. Does anyone know if you can visit or if it is still there? Any help or contact information would be appreciated.

I remember back in the spring there was a newspaper article where were talking about a couple of different options that they were looking at using the building & gymnasium for, one being an EKy basketball hall of fame. Not sure where they are at with anything as of yet, but I would say that if you were going to stop by there, I would do it earlier in the day rather than later.

The buildings of Carr Creek High were recently purchased by the Carr Creek Alumni Association. Swing by the Knott County BOE and ask for Larry Thornsberry, I think I can arrange for you to visit!

a little off topic, but it would be cool to see Knott County Central wear some Carr Creek throwback basketball uniforms. The KHSAA via NFHS has clamped down somewhat on the wearing of throwback uniforms or uniforms that are not official "school colors". They ended that last year where you could apply for a 1 game waiver.

There has been talk of that matter of fact I talked to the knott co A.D. A couple of weeks back and he was wanting to try to arrange a throw back game with 4 teams KCC and Cordia wearing old uniforms and play a game in the old hindman gym and he did mention Carr creek but the gym is in no condition to play there and I don't think Carr creek is a regulation floor. Would be cool if it would happen.

I love it! Most people can't appreciate gyms like this. Heck, anymore people just want to knock down the old school to get their name on a plaque in the new building!!

I love the old gyms. Knott County will always be my home! Carr Creek was always our rivalry(Hindman) in elementary. The old middle school gym close to settlement school holds lots of memories for me too. My 8th grade class was the last year of that school.

That old hindman gym is really cool I have played many a game in that gym in grade school. It is just like going back in time. The dressing rooms were just like out of the Hoosiers movie. One of my best grade school memories in that gym was beating an un defeated Carr creek elementary when I was in 6th grade thay had a power house. Just any FYI one of the stars on that grade school team was the son of one or the Carr creek state champs Starr James estil Adams son of estil Adams they also had michal potter he got a scholarship to west point for football. Both were grow men in grade school. Cordia's gym is probably the only gym other than hazard that Carr creek and Hindman played in. There is not many of these old treasures left. Cordia is talking about building a new gym and lord knows they need one but I just like that nostalgic feel.

Is the old Knott County High gym still being used for anything?
