If doc says it's bull, I say it's bull...

I have never seen a Cottonmouth here in NKY, never seen one any where in Ky. I know there are a few in Western Ky from what I've read. That's just me though.

I like to think I'm an expert on Mountain Lions in Ky. There aren't any...carry on.

I haven't either. And hope to keep it that way

No joke, me either.

Worst week of my life was trout fishing in Linville Gorge in NC. Spent more time climbing around rocks and brush where I couldn't see my feet than I did fishing. We saw cottonmouth and rattlers several times and this old boy was MISERABLE.

Saw one cliff jumping back in college. We were climbing up this ledge, and one of my buddies in front of me saw one (cottonmouth) curled up under a ledge. Needless to say....we moved on.

This past weekend, we were loading our boat into the water...my Mom and Sis see a Northern Water Snake close to the ramp trying to choke down a 3-4" baby bass & talk about freaking out!! I'm not gonna lie, I jumped myself. I'll admit, I didn't know if it was a copperhead or a water snake until seeing the pics that Doc put up.

Problem was solved, though.

Joker sidewinded himself back behind my truck tires...fish in mouth....backed the boat in the water just a bit more. "He Gone". :lol2:

Gonna see snakes around water this time of year. I like to give them plenty of space to do their own thing.

First, copperheads avoid being in water. They are short stout snakes who are often found near watering holes but will spend far less time in the water. What frequently happens is that people see the northern water snakes and assume because of the pattern that it's a copperhead. Not the same. And I've never in my life read or heard of a snake deciding that being eaten by a fish was a good idea. The pepsin inside the gullet of a fish will dissolve a fishing hook, I can't imagine that would be an ideal environment for a snake.

here's the pic to show the difference:

They both look dead to me...

I didn't know snakes cliff dived. That's pretty cool.

I killed a big Copperhead the other day. It was not the bright tan/brown/auburn color like this one, it was much darker, almost a charcoal color primarily. Aggressive booger too.

Looked like this guy

Head down to EKY and you'll find some... along with some rattlesnakes.

Well played.

No you won't. Cottonmouths inhabit Western KY. Their range doesn't come close to EKY.

What you'll find is one of the countless water snakes mistakenly killed as a Cottonmouth.

You won't find Cottonmouths, correct, but you will find copperheads and rattlers
