If that occurs I will literally eat my hat. And I'm not the sort of person to misuse the word 'literally'.

He was talking about how a team had to play as good as last years team to have a chance...I simply said that Mayfield would have to play better than they did in the finals last year if they expected to win this year. Even the most ardent Mayfield fan would have to admit that Mayfield played poorly and were lucky to win last year. If they play a game like that against CAL or DeSales this year (both of which are much better than last years Williamsburg) they will lose. That is all I was saying, no more no less.

 

played poorly? ummmm, no. Didn't play our best game, to be sure. got lucky? I don't remember a lot of "lucky" plays that went for us. I remember us making some key plays to win the game.

 

Overall, I think Mayfield does pretty well. When the most common criticism of our team is that we didn't look good when winning a state championship, well, I guess we should just say thank you and make room on the trophy shelf.

 

I can't wait for this season to play out.

Is DeSales team better this year than last years? I think Mayfield will have a better team than last years come November. Both of these teams could get upset at some point. I'm not focusing on that one game that most saw and were unimpressed (like maybe your CAL game or even the Murray game).You could say the mark of champion is winning when sometimes they shouldn't.

From the eyes of the unbiased fan DeSales appeared the much better team last year. Mayfield could be better and DeSales the same and I could still see a DeSales win if we are judging by what we saw in November.

 

Personally, I think we need to leave last year in the past because right now I think these are two very good teams who are about stride for stride.

I definitely think Desales looked more impressive than Mayfield did in the Title game. However, last year was supposed to be a rebuilding year that they came into the season with a lot of question marks and I think most Cardinal fans were less confident about a title than the prior 2 years. While they didn't look all that impressive, I give an inspired Williamsburg team a lot of credit for that. They basically returned everyone from the 13 runner-up team, were undefeated and played with a large chip on their shoulder. As for Desales, I don't think anyone from the east side of 2a was very good. NCC has a great tradition and have had some great past teams, but, let's be realistic, the 2014 version wasn't one of their best and it's easy to look impressive when you're clearly the more talented team. IMO, there were at least 4-5 1a teams better than NCC was last year.

 

I do feel this years Mayfield team is considerably better than last years. The offense is much more efficient, they have more playmakers at RB and WR and Arnett is clearly stronger and running the team with a lot more confidence. They also look better defensively, especially at LB and in the secondary. They also have more depth as only 2-3 players go both ways, and, outside of Kennemore, the other 2 only play part time on both sides.

 

Whether that's enough to get over the hump against an outstanding Desales team is yet to be determined, but, I do like this team a lot and their chances. With that said, Desales needs to concern themselves with CAL, Monroe and Glasgow and Mayfield needs to concern themselves with Murray, Butler Co and OB Catholic. It'll be challenging enough to get by those teams and if both are fortunate enough to do so, then, we'll see what happens.

No slight to Mayfield or Belfry in their classes meant...just how I feel right now, but it could change

 

This seems the most plausible winners to me. I know there's some doubters but I think Beechwood wins it all easy, Trinity too.

From watching the game lat year both Mayfield and Williamsburg would give Desales a good game. I also think both were better than NCC. When two good teams get together like last year in the class A then flaws will be found.. I would actually like to see them two teams play again with the same teams it was such a good game.
