Why don't you hear T and X complaining about the blind draw and...

Knute Rockne, any public school in KY can accept any student-athlete they want to accept.

Remember, you can't self impose restrictions on your own school district and then complain that others won't do the same. The practice is not only stupid but it is un-American.

Just because high schools can accept kids does not mean that they will be deemed eligible by the khsaa.

Do those student-athletes just happen to show up out of nowhere at their front door asking to get in? Some do I'm sure, but what about the others?

Trinity and St. X have a very wide recognition. Their Alumni bases are huge and active. Students come to these schools for a variety of reasons and from a variety of influences. MANY are 2nd, 3rd or even more, generations imbedded in their loyalty to either X or T. As an example, in this year's senior class, there were 268 graduating. 68 of those Seniors' fathers attended Trinity, thats 25%. Of those 25% I know of quite a few who have other children who have either attended, are attending, or will be attending Trinity. Many others have fathers who attended St. X, who've chosen to "buck the system".

you are wrong, call the JCPS and ask them if Manual, Brown, and Central can take kids out of jefferson county.

I actually did do this, and I was told that they did...if there were spots available after Jefferson County resident students were enrolled.

I think most public schools only question how those kids get to the school or become interested in it. Did they see a billboard, flyer, or ad about the school or did someone come talk to them about coming to one of the catholic schools? I think most public schools would like to send people out into the various surrounding communities and publicize their schools and invite young kids to open houses, etc...

Again, Jefferson County Public Schools DO advertise, have open houses, etc.

This year, I saw billboards, bus advertising, and television ads. There were also radio spots.

Catholic schools send information to enrolled students of Catholic grade schools, and to those who call the school to request it or inquire through their websites. Catholic school representatives visit Catholic grade schools, but not public. We hold open houses that ANYONE is welcome to attend. There is a "Catholic High School Fair" held each year, that is again, open to anyone interested, where you can talk to representatives of all schools. The JCPS did that this year as well at the Kentucky International Convention Center.

Just because high schools can accept kids does not mean that they will be deemed eligible by the khsaa.

Depends upon the circumstances. Did the student play sports at another school? Did the student transfer while IN high school? Is he/she enrolling as a freshman?

If you have facts of wrongdoing present them (to the KHSAA), if all you have are opinions, allegations, and someone I know told me please don't present that here at BGP.

You guys are so funny, if anyone gets on here and attacks or questions anything that St. X or Trinity does, the common reply is to contact the KHSAA or do this or that.

I do not have any facts of wrongdoing by either school and I really don't care. I am only participating in this discussion and sharing some concerns that I have heard from coaches around the state in 4A regarding Trinity and St. X.

If I lived in Louisville, I would probably send my son to one of these two schools. For Football, No. But for the quality of education, environment, religious background, post-graduate oppurtunities: YES!

The fact that both schools excel on the gridiron make them all that more attractive. I love watching the support that these two schools bring with them in Louisville every December. The tailgaters at PJS before the 4A game is a tremendous sight to see. What parent wouldn't want to be a part of that and have their kids associated with that type of support, etc..

I am only standing on the fence and looking at things from both sides of the fence.:thumb:

The problem is everyone always has their conspiracy theories when it comes to T and X but no one ever has any substance to their claims so it gets very old when you have baseless after baseless allegations about them and therefore we generally ask people to put up or be quiet.

3high, I've honestly just tried to answer your questions logically and with facts. I'm not trying to be defensive. But, I and many others have answered these questions countless times, and everytime, the same questions arise.

Well you called the wrong prople because you cant attend ANY options or Magnet schools if you live outside of jefferson county. that includes Male and manual. If you call, ask for Options and Magnet dept. and try again.

Well, there's no need for me to now. My daughter graduated 2 years ago. :thumb:

When I called JCPS, I was told by the JCPS office to call Manual directly, and given a name of someone with whom to speak. I did so, explained that my daughter wished to transfer from her Catholic high school and would like to choose Manual because of their program they have for "hands-on" art. I don't know what you call it, but pottery, etc. Anywho...I was told that it wouldn't be possible, because there was no room for transfers. I asked about paying tuition, and I was told that only applied to out-of-county students.

You are wrong. They can and do.

You are wrong call 485-3011 ask for magnet dept. Then ask If I live outside of jefferson county can my child attend any school. they will say they can at a cost, but THEY CANNOT ATTEND ANY OPTION OR MAGNET SCHOOL.

I graduated from Manual and unless things have changed, they can accept out of county students so long as they pay some predetermined tuition. I knew people who did this.

The number is small, one or two per class, and I don't know of a single instance where these have been athletes.

Thanks, Rowdy! :thumb:

BR90, for argument's sake, I'll accept what you say to be true. But as the Ru has pointed out, that is a local school district rule that they voluntarily put in place. That's not state law. Thus, if the local school district wants to constrict the area that it can enroll students from, they have no one to blame than themselves and should not be upset with those school districts, private or public who choose not to be bound by such constrictions.
