"Recruiting" type talk needs to be done in another thread.

I posted this yesterday. There are also open enrollment schools, who do accept student for areas other than a limited area. Again, this is a local choice, not a state law.

It's not just Manual. ALL JCPS schools are able to accept out-of-county students, provided the conditions listed are met.

 

The same is true for some other school systems as well.

I think most public schools only question how those kids get to the school or become interested in it. Did they see a billboard, flyer, or ad about the school or did someone come talk to them about coming to one of the catholic schools? I think most public schools would like to send people out into the various surrounding communities and publicize their schools and invite young kids to open houses, etc...

 

If you go to many Louisville Catholic School Athletic Association (CSAA) 7th and 8th grade football games you will see several coaches from public schools marketing their schools to the Catholic School parents attending the games. Male and Manual especially. I personally have no problem with the coaches attending the games. It forces T and X to continually get better to compete with such competition. Unfortunately, most public backers get all bent out of shape when the reverse occurs.

 

So we can send assistant coaches to Trinity, St. X, and hand out pamplets to come to our school system. Sounds good to me, I believe I will try it.

Why when those schools in reality can draw from where ever they want however, they CHOOSE to place restrictions upon themselves for whatever reason.

:lol: If we keep up that reasoning then Male will have to be in a private class, along with Highlands, Beechwood and all other independent district schools which can accept students from outside their district. In the end, the private class will be made up of twice as many public schools than private schools.:lol:

No law or constitutional ammendment, state or federal, stipulates that schools only accept students from a defined boundary. That's self-imposed. If some schools, public or private, choose to open their institutions to accept students outside their boundaries, that is their perogative. If there is any inequity, any unfairness, then the people have the ability to change it. They can do so by changing their enrollment policies. One cannot state that anything is unfair when no rules are broken.

FYI, in Louisville private schools aren't the only schools that can draw from a limited area.

 

I have no problem with X, T, LC, and other private schools in this state joining with other private schools from other states in our region and forming a superpower football conference with our own championship. It's not like these schools don't have the funds to make it happen.

The only time they complain is when the "talk" happens regarding their feeder system which encompasses everywhere is talked about. Even if you made them take Louisville only that would help even it up. They get kids from Oldham, Frankfort, Henry, Spencer, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Clarksville, and who knows where else??? That is what would be the most fair thing that could happen to give the other L-ville schools a fair chance to beat an All-Star team that does work hard, etc etc. The do set a great example but all of your good programs are going 365 like they are and don't get to draw all over the state.

 

Knute - had to respond -everyone says we(T&X) can draw from anywhere - well that is true if we can find a kid in - say Oldham County - All the parent has to do is drive him there and pay $8500 per year. I know parents everywhere are lining up for this especially all of the gifted athlete parents. It is not as simple as getting kids from everywhere...Its matching the desire to go to T or X with the resources to pay for it. NOT SO EASY.

How come out of all the "allstar" teams that T and X have...we don't have many kids picked for the all state teams????....kinda blows your statement out of the water...doesn't it Knute?......

 

It's not recruiting...it's not allstar players.....it's not boundries.....or any other exuse you can think of....

 

We have a team of kids that

-rarely make the all state team...

-who must meet a higher level of academic achievement than required by the KHSAA to play sports for X and T

-who have to adbide by very strict behavior contracts. (detentions for being 1 minute late for class as an example)

-who must dress in dress slacks and a tie everyday

-who have to pay $8500 a year to attend

-who have to get there own ride to school because there is no bus service.

-must pay for lunch

 

These are hardly advantages...except that they do carry over to make one heck of a well disciplined football team.

The problem is everyone always has their conspiracy theories when it comes to T and X but no one ever has any substance to their claims so it gets very old when you have baseless after baseless allegations about them and therefore we generally ask people to put up or be quiet.
