Do the circumstances matter at a private school???????????????

As far as KHSAA eligibility, yes. We follow the same rules as public schools do.

Back to the topic: Why don't you hear X and T cmplaining about the blind draw and what does that mean?

People tend to analyze situations from their unique perspective. Put another way, environment matters. Many Manual fans, for example, feel that the new sitution hurts their school: Manual, while playing good football, has little chance to win a state championship in football. Manual last won a state championship in 1966. Manual now has less chance of advancing deep into the playoffs, hurting postseason monetary possibilities as well as quashing excitement at the school on the occasional year that it may have gone deep into the playoffs. St. X is helped by the new system. Most years X had to play Male, Manual or PRP in their district. This will not change. Round three this year may pit them against Trinity. Unlike the state championship game, in which all proceeds go to the KHSAA, the proceeds go to the participants here. The money is important to X because they receive no funds from the state. Also, the lack of travel in the first two rounds helps X for monetary reasons as well as the fact that even when they are playing an "away" game in Jefferson County they will generally have the larger crowd unless they're playing against Trinity in which case the crowd should match up evenly. Round three in future years gives them an opportunity to play in the Eastern region, which, recently, absent Trinity, has been the weaker region. Thus, for X, more money this year and in the future a potentially easier road to state.

Nice points Diogenes,

?????'s:

What do we consider "advancing deep in the playoffs"?

When was the last time Manual (or any non big 3) advanced [in the current or previous setup]?

At first glance, I have no problem with the KHSAA taking a split of the privates playoff monies (as well as all playoff $) as long as they provide travel and hosting fees first

Woody Jr

The only time they complain is when the "talk" happens regarding their feeder system which encompasses everywhere is talked about. Even if you made them take Louisville only that would help even it up. They get kids from Oldham, Frankfort, Henry, Spencer, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Clarksville, and who knows where else??? That is what would be the most fair thing that could happen to give the other L-ville schools a fair chance to beat an All-Star team that does work hard, etc etc. The do set a great example but all of your good programs are going 365 like they are and don't get to draw all over the state.

You do realize this is America and people have a right to send their child to school wherever they want.

But how fair is it to the other schools in 4A who do not have the fortune to do some of the things that Trinity and St. X are allowed to do? Can Manual draw from all the places that these two schools do for players?

Yes, Manual can select anyone they want who apply to the school since they don't have any tie-ins with Louisville middle schools.

Woody,

I am not sure I follow your question but in general terms as long as you start at a high school in the 9th grade of course you will eligible.

I repeat this often because many people either don't realize (or refuse to acknowledge) this is a local school district issue and not a state law or restriction.

Did you ask Mr. Sexton? He says he owns my daughter and any future children. Now if he would just start paying child support...

I love it!

He sits about 6 rows in front of me at the Pizza Box for U of L home games, he's heard a thing or two from our row, for sure.

Not exactly, the academic requirements for Manual knock out a large number of applicants and then all qualified Jefferson County residents must be placed before non-Jefferson County candidates can be placed. In most cases there are only one or two non-Jefferson County residents per class (and I can honestly say I of the ones I knew of they were in the Math Science Tech program and YPAS and neither played sports as it took too long for them to get home to take part in many extracurricular activities), and many of the athletes wanting to attend Manual can't due to academic standards. Basically Manual is much harder to get into then most schools in Jefferson Co, and especially if you live outside of Jefferson County, not that it is that big a deal, but it is more accurate then saying Manual can let anyone in, they can't, and they don't.

Keep up the good work!

that is fine -then private schools need a to be in a different athletic division than schools that can only draw from a limited area.

I posted this yesterday. There are also open enrollment schools, who do accept student for areas other than a limited area. Again, this is a local choice, not a state law.

OK...to settle arguments here,

From the Manual Website:

Quote:
Interested Students may apply to the program of their choice. Applications may be obtained by calling the Office of Options and Magnets at 485-3323. Jefferson County residents are not charged tuition; however, tuition is charged for out-of-county students. Applicants apply to their preferred magnet and application materials vary. YPAS applicants will be contacted for an audition. Please click the appropriate link to see the requirements for each magnet area.

Applicants whos parents are moving int Jefferson County from another county of state may apply but must provide proof of residence in Jefferson County before enrollment.

Woody,

I repeat this often because many people either don't realize (or refuse to acknowledge) this is a local school district issue and not a state law or restriction.

Thanx guru,

Another had questioned whether all kids are eligible (wasnt sure what he was referring to?)

I have no idea what percentage of publics have a strict district boundary for their student pop. Being from Ashland Im just used to a boundary which I believe was based on political lines, and they became different with various annexations, etc (not sure if schools eventually changed with it or not?)

I had always understood that the schools had an agreement:confused: (for lack of a complete understanding on my part) that only kids in "their district" could enroll. As I recall, if for example we accepted 3 kids from a neighboring district we had to pay that district the federal/state/local? (its been a while) stipend or monies those students were generating.

So the basis for my question in relation to your mantra:D is that I never see anyone get on here and say well the publics "have" to do this, or this is why they choose to do this, etc. Do you/others feel that publics(the majority??) institute this policy for no reason, for their benefit, etc?? I'm just curious whether its a need to make sure they dont have too many students, a gentlemans agreement between districts to prevent wholesale recruiting and/or destroying another public school, that they just don't want to fool with establishing a policy of accepting this student but not that one (thereby opening themselves up to legal action since they are a public school thats supposed to serve everyone - as per their policy?), or many other possible reasons.

Sorry for the long windedness. Hope I got across what I was curious about.

I would love to have open enrollment & get everyone! but not being a school admin person I realize there are lots of complicated issues

Cheers, Woody Jr

I have always been curious why the word Recruiting is such a bad word and a "no no."

I would say recruiting means : to try and convince someone to attend your school based on the schools strengths

would everyone agree to this simple definition???

If yes, Please tell me how private schools are to survive with out promoting their school's strength's and so on.. even Trinity only had 25% fathers that graduated from T

Private schools do recruit students. If we called it advertising-promoting-soliciting.... would that be better and make others happy?

Life is never fair and for the same reasons Manual, Male and PRP etc.. attract students through their strengths so do private schools

Long Live Recruiting!!!

Get better or stay home!:flame:
