Kim Davis Found In Contempt

Featured Replies

I was sitting in the local courthouse parking lot a couple of weeks ago talking to a deputy when 4 women came out of the courthouse all dressed up. He said they were a couple and he knew it since he had worked a domestic at their home a weeks or so before.

About an hour later I was driving through downtown and the couple was exchanging vows on the Fountain Square right in the middle of town. No protesters no one making anything out of it, just a couple getting married.

Once the Davis thing dies down, this entire gay marriage thing will be a non-factor. In fact once this dies down will their even be a gay lobby anymore? Will gay issues even be politically relevant anymore?

Here's one BGPer that longs for the day...

What about when a Sheriff decides he doesn't want to enforce Obama's gun regulations, breaking federal law?

Or when Governors abide by their own state laws legalizing Marijuana and therefore breaking federal law?

Or when cities offer sanctuary to illegal immigrants, again breaking federal law.

Is the precedent being set that a judge has the power to detain an official indefinitely without a trial by jury?

By the same logic used to jail Kim Davis, Jack Conway should have been put there when he refused to continue defending his state’s ban on gay marriage because he feared he’d "regret it for the rest of his life."

By the same logic used to jail Kim Davis, Mayor of San Fran should have been put there for refusing to enforce federal immigration laws.

By the same logic used to jail Kim Davis, the attorney generals in the 23 states that have legalized pot should be thrown in jail because they're not enforcing federal law.

Why the hypocrisy?

Just like with Mrs. Davis until someone challenges the actions......

One particular from the judge's decision stood out as somewhat odd to me. When it came to the deputies, and 5 of the 6 said that they would issue the licenses...the judge said the 6th one (her son) would NOT go to jail since there were others in the office who were willing to do the job (and he didn't interfere with them doing it).

But, he (the son) isn't doing his job, is he? So, if the judge is going with the "as long as somebody does it" theory, doesn't that play into the whole line of thinking that other clerks (in other counties) WERE issuing licenses, and that people could've gone there? I mean, you're getting a Kentucky marriage license (not a Rowan County, Bourbon County, Jefferson County, etc. marriage license), so why does it matter where you get it?

Perhaps some of our legal eagles on here can explain it to me. Seems like the judge's own words could be used against him, couldn't it? Would that be something her lawyers would use during an appeal?

Right. I'm not a legal expert, but it seems to me she is being indefinitely detained without trail by jury. Seems like a dangerous precedent.

Beshear could convene a special session so the Senate and House can vote to impeach.

He refuses to do so for the sake of Jack Conway and other political reasons.

Hopefully, a positive to come out of all this is could be that government gets out of the marriage business altogether.

She is not the first person to ever be detained for being in contempt of court.

Because I like to laugh. And looking at Kimmy makes me laugh .Especially at the end of a hard week. :) Do you guys not like to laugh at Hillary? You are going to die young if you don't learn to laugh.

I'm a huge proponent of having a good laugh and not really thinking anything can't be made fun of. However, a large majority of your comments just come off as misogynistic...

Agreed.

I am not sure when a jury is used and when it's not used in Federal court. Seems like it has something to do with the minimum sentence.
