I expect BG to win this game but it has been quieter than normal on here about St. X this season so I won't be surprised with any outcome. Paging @AvidTiger

 tbh I've been so caught up with Louisville basketball that I haven't even paid attention to highschool football.

I'm happy for you also. I'm looking forward to following UL basketball this season. :thumb:

If St X somehow wins this game then even though it was only a scrimmage, this could show how truly scary good SK could actually be this year.

I see BG winning by multiple

scores but if it doesn't happen it sends a signal to 6A that SK could be for real this year. This is the game I was waiting for.

I don't know why people put a lot of stock in that scrimmage with SK, hell X hadn't even settle in a starting QB at that point, and they were practicing their new offense. X will have had three weeks of practice since that PRACTICE game, I guarantee they are much better since then.

What are the thoughts of BG's starting QB thus far? Is he comparable to any former BG Qbs? A little that I have seen he has a good arm and can use his legs effectively too.

What about offensive and defensive lines for BG? What is the scouting report on them?

LTR

Clark Payne, junior QB at BGHS after 2 games is 21 of 32 for 262 yards with 5 TDs (additional 2 rushing TDs) with 0 interceptions. I actually think 4 or 5 of his incomplete passes were intentionally thrown out of bounds to prevent a sack. Has great pocket presence and will take off for a rushing first down and slide before he takes a hit. Very heady player for a junior with only 2 starts under belt.

Defense for Purples is fine. We are stronger in defensive backfield than up front but have aggressive linebackers that are well coached.

O line could be a middle school line and still see running backs get a couple of hundred yards (I think they have best 2 rbs in state).

If Purples win Friday and can beat Red Devils they have legit shot at another 15 and 0 season.

He looks like a pretty good player. I thought their OL looked a little down this year, but BG does a great job of working to their strengths and overcoming any short comings.

Their skill players look really good!

I'm not sure how I feel about this game. IMO, this game is going to be about as tight as last year. I expect not much getting by the DB's and the linebackers of Bowling Green, along with creating a couple turnovers. On the offensive side, I can see a few mistakes being made up front but hopefully handling their jobs. If the undersized offensive line can handle their own, BG wins. As I've seen in this thread, many people at BG seem to be excited about QB Clark Payne and how great he's going to be. I'll definitely say that he's got potential to be great playmaker for BG; but we can't all jump on the bandwagon of "he's the best QB at BG since Trent Steelman" after only two games against average opponents. Once again, I hope he succeeds as much as any other Purple, but I'm not sold that he's our biggest threat.

Now, for St. X to win this game, they must keep the ball out of the air and control the LOS on the offensive side. I said before, the lineman on both sides of the ball are undersized this year so that'll be the breaking point. When it comes to stopping the offense of BG, Xavier must stop Carrothers. Ever since the middle of last season, the run game has been the power of the BG offense. We'll see how the young BG team handles the atmosphere of Brother Thomas More and how they adjust to pressure.

BG: 28

St. Xavier: 20

Any live video streaming on this one?

Devin Hayes was wayyyyy better than Steelman. They played in different offenses, but Devin, IMO, has been the best BGHS QB in last 15+ years.

This quote is completely taken out of context. No one said he was better than anyone else. The real quote was a source reported to me he felt the young man was the "most accurate" passer at BG since Mr. Steelman. This no slap to Mr. Hayes as he was absolutely terrific in every way. However, Mr. Hayes had Mr. Fan to throw to, which did help him. We'll see about the real quote as the season moves along.

Say what you will, this young man can play and I think you'll see that on Friday because X will force him to. I've never crowned him with anything other than I feel he has excellent potential to lead this team. I hope we see that Friday night.

Fant wasn't a 6' 4" SEC-caliber receiver. But like I said, Steelman ran a different offense than Hayes, but Hayes ran his offense just about to perfection.

True, but Fant was BGs only Mr. Football and arguable the best player to ever play at BG.

By the way, he is slated to get his first career start at slot WR for WKU this weekend against Vandy. We'll see how he does against Vandy.

Steelman had D.L. Moore who played at South Carolina and Hayes had Fant...both had great 1st options.

Throw back, but if Steelman is not hurt in '06 to start the year BG beats X in my opinion. DL Moore was the starting QB for BG and the offense struggled mightily to move the ball.

IMHO Devin Hayes was more accurate... There's a reason he played and set records at Army with his feet. I don't like comparing players, because no two are the same. But if we could compare Clark to anyone, I'd say Scooter Hollis. Both have acceptional throwing skills but both can make big plays by tucking the ball and run. I wasn't in any way dissing Clark, I just think it's too early to make assumptions.
