Seriously though, I can see four possibilities:

 

1. SK is up this year

2. St. X is down this year

3. A bit of both 1 and 2

4. It was only a scrimmage and St. X did not take it seriously.

 

Personally, I think it's number three, but I'm curious to see what other people's opinions are. Both teams' first game should help to determine just what this scrimmage means.

 

5. SK didn't even show the good stuff yet not with CAL in the stands scouting them.

Like if it the score wasn't the other way, everyone would be taking the high road.

I just did not see the traditional St. X toughness and intensity on offense. This is something that had gradually waned each year of the Wolford era. The problem is that it is a finesse offense without enough team speed to be a good finesse team. Just not what you traditionally expect from the Tigers.

 

The St. X defense played ok, not great. They did a good job of getting turnovers, but gave up a good bit of yardage. They gave up a few more big plays than they typically did last year both on the ground and through the air.

 

This aspect of the Wolford era has been the most frustrating for me.

Any time SK wins it is a spanking. Obviously. C'mon, Pep have some of this delicious kool-aid that's being passed around and then you'll see.

I would pump the brakes a little, St X lost a lot players in key positions from a team that only went 8-5. They have a new O coordinator that will take time, and even this site positioned them a 6th in 6A, which very low for X traditionally. SK beat a team very vulnerable at this point early in the season.

My comment was only a joke about UK#1fan's definition of spanking.

Scrimmages -- got to love them. No team shows their whole offensive or defensive package. You only win if you have no injuries and the coaches see what they need to work on and what kids can play what position. You win if the kids get a sense of where they stand and what they need to do to get better, regardless of the score. If the fans want to make more out of it than that I am glad it gives you hope!! Like was said above -- everyone's record is 0-0 for next week.

Now now, to be fair I am like this with all NKY 6A schools.

I have 2 responses:

 

1. If uk#1fan wasn't always being obnoxious about SK: SK's success in this scrimmage is pretty impressive. It's great to see that an NKY team may finally be developing into a 6A force.

 

2. Because uk#1fan is always obnoxious about SK: X is down a little this year and was clearly experimenting with their rotation. X used the scrimmage as a tool to grow. I'm sure a regular season game would have ended with a very different score.
