July 20, 201511 yr Author It's really hard to see anyone but Davis at the top of this list, considering what he was able to accomplish in just one year at UK. SEC Player of the Year, National Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Final Four MVP, 2012 Gold Medalist. What do you think?

I agree that it's really hard to leave AD off of the list, but it's also very difficult to put him on the list considering he was only there for 1 year. Still, his accomplishments in that one year are more than most accomplished in four, so I'd absolutely have him on the list -- but maybe not #1 .

I think that's the main argument...one year vs. multiple years. I guess the way I approach it is like this: Would I rather have Dan Issel/Ralph Beard/Jamal Mashburn for 3 years or Anthony Davis for 1?

Doesn't Issel have some ridiculous collegiate career per game scoring average? It's like 25 ppg isn't it?

July 20, 201511 yr Author Doesn't Issel have some ridiculous collegiate career per game scoring average? It's like 25 ppg isn't it? Yes, he put up some gaudy numbers. Hatz will know better than I would. I'm not complaining about Issel being #1 , but for me, I go with Davis.
July 20, 201511 yr Doesn't Issel have some ridiculous collegiate career per game scoring average? It's like 25 ppg isn't it? Yes. Played only 3 years but is still the all time leading scorer in UK history. Dude was a beast by most accounts.
July 20, 201511 yr Hard to go against Issel. Issell put up strong scoring numbers of 25ppg in 5 years in the ABA and 20ppg in 10 years in the NBA, along with strong rebounding and assist numbers as a 7-time all-star. And averaged 25.8/13 in 3 years at UK. He was a machine.
July 20, 201511 yr Dan Issel was the first one who came to mind. I would have to think about Sam Bowie over Tony Delk but one less season might prevent me from making a switch.
July 20, 201511 yr Is this ranking their UK careers or overall sucess in basketball? If coaching and running a team counts Pat Riley has to be #1 . AD will have the best NBA playing career of any cat if he stays healthy.
July 20, 201511 yr I think Mash is second only to Davis when it comes to players I've seen with my own eyeballs. No disrespect to Issel
July 21, 201511 yr Davis is the greatest Wildcat. He accomplished everything you could ever hope for, and did it in one year. JMO, but he's the best player to ever don the blue and white to me. Takes a special guy to do that in one year but he was it.
