MMA not so popular on BGP. Why not?

Featured Replies

I watch every event and I'm getting the one tonight. I'm a huge fan. I just honestly forget to go in that forum.

I'll be over....what kind of beer should I bring??

I don't watch it. I know it's supposed to be this wildly-popular and fast growing thing, but I honestly don't think I have any friends that watch regularly.

My group of friends are the exact opposite. I only know a couple who don't follow.

If you are a fight fan I don't know how you can't watch tonight's card. It's July no other sports on with any meaning .

Whatever is free for me .

That's where I am (except I'm 45). I grew up watching boxing, and I even boxed a little in college (I actually spent more time getting hit than actually boxing). My dad was a huge fan. But boxing slowly disappeared from TV, and what matches you could find were generally terrible, and now boxing is virtually invisible. And the pace is very slow, making it very hard to watch (for me) if you can find it on TV. MMA is much more exciting. Again, some of the appeal for me is the wrestling/grappling aspect of it. The comparison that some make, likening MMA to a street fight, is just incorrect. Most street fights are pretty weak....a few wild punches, from guys with no skill, and then over in a few seconds. These MMA guys are very technical, very disciplined, and it takes a lot of skill to do what they do.

I think part of the unpopularity of the sport around KY is the fact that wrestling is still treated as a second class sport here in KY. Wrestling is a natural entry into MMA and I think as that sport grows here in KY, MMA will eventually grow more in popularity.

It just doesn't make any sense how someone can be a boxing fan today and not MMA. People paid money for that faux fight of Mayweather vs Pac. You get more action in the prelim fights that will be free tonight.

I was a huge boxing fan growing up. Then while bartending in college a little over a decade ago I saw my first UFC fight and I've been hooked since.

I watch all of the pay per views online, for free.

I either watch live or DVR all of the UFC and some other organizations.

I either pay for the card , a buddy does , or I go to a bar.

I like MMA quite a bit. I don't buy any PPVs though. I watched replays on FOX all of the time. I'm not invested in any fighter per se, I just watch the replays and enjoy the action.

I love it, it is in my opinion the best contact sport and it's not even close. Grew up a huge boxing fan but the UFC is on another level at this point in the game.

Dana White is possibly one of the best commissioners in sports and one of the best CEO's in the corporate world. He has re branded the UFC, assembled the best talent, increased interest in the sport, and made a lot of money doing so. He gives the fans what they want to see and he is always figuring out ways to grow the brand.

Age thing for me, I prefer boxing over MMA. My view is, in comparison, MMA is just a street fight by people that have martial arts training. Again, I fully admit, that's my age. Problem with boxing now is it isn't anything near what it was when I was young, so I get the draw for the younger crowd to MMA.

Agree 1,000 percent with everything you just said.

There are some folks that used to post a ton on MMA on here. I used to post more on MMA a while back. I am a fan- I watch UFC and Bellator and even some WSOF and KOC stuff. I listen to the Jon Anik and Kenny Florian podcast. I follow Ariel Helwani on Twitter. I consider myself a fan.

I think it needs to be unified and as free from corruption as possible.

No reason in particular, just have zero interest in it.

Very little interest in it. None of my group of friends has any interest in it either. I don't get enjoyment out of watching 2 people try to seriously harm each other. Just how I see it.

Same, I don't know anyone who watches it regularly.
