Boiled peanuts?

Featured Replies

Does anyone else here eat them? Or am I the only one.

Went on a trip late this winter to Georgia, and noticed that every gas station south of Knoxville had crock pots full of them, and it rekindled my love for the messy, salty snack of the south.

If you don't like them, why not? Is it the texture or the taste or that you just don't like peanuts? For me, it's become one of my staple snacks, especially when I make it on my own.

What exactly are they? Do you just throw them, shells and all, in a pot of water?

It has to be raw and/or green peanuts, can't be roasted. You boil them, shell and all, in a pot of water and boil for several hours. Or I just let a crock pot go for about a day. Shell them and eat them. They're super soft and have a strong taste of however they are seasoned. They're sold in cans at a grocery store, and aren't too bad at all.

I worked in Dothan, Alabama on a special project for 2 weeks quite a few years ago. I was told by the locals that I just had to try the boiled peanuts. I did, and they were just, simply awful. Hated the taste, texture, everything about them. I'd willfully starve myself if they were the only food left on this earth.

Picked up a big bag or two whenever we drove to Georgia coast for summer vacation. Looked for a good ol' boy selling them from the back of his pickup. Saltier the better. Don't like boiled peanuts in cans. Got to be fresh.

It must be an acquired taste, but for now I'm not a fan. They taste fine, but the texture turns me off. It is like a tiny mashed potato in a wet soggy shell.

Too many summers spent down south have me forever hating them! YUK!

Eat them 2-3 times a week. Only cajun though. They are very good

My son use to live in Georgia, tried them once. I am not a fan. I could not get over how soft the texture was. The taste was ok, though. I'd rather just have my peanuts salted in the shell that they sell at ball games.

As much as I love southern fair, I never really cared much for boiled peanuts. Now give me a can of hancooked jumbo Virgina peanuts and I'm in heaven!

Nasty hate the texture.

If you have tried regular and didn't like them, you should give Cajun a tried. They are vastly different (better).

I love them!!! I grew up in florida and we get a fresh bushel every summer
