July 6, 201511 yr Author To paraphrase William Faulkner. Christianity is a fine religion. Perhaps we should try it sometime. Guess you would consider yourself one of the righteous ones, mcpapa, along with SportsGuy and others.
July 6, 201511 yr Author The High Priest Questions Jesus John 18: 19-24 19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. 20 “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. 21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.” 22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded. 23 “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?” 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
July 6, 201511 yr Fascinating. I would like to know how this relates to the topic of Texas and secession.
July 6, 201511 yr Could we just vote Ca. out ? and let Texas stay . I like Texas . But it is soooo HOT there! UGH!
July 6, 201511 yr All I know is when Peter Griffin succeeded from the US it didn't work out too well. That said, Texas has a better chance than Petoria. I briefly skimmed the article so I didn't read in depth the details but I see no issue with TX taking their gold back. Unfortunately they still need to figure out where to store it.
July 6, 201511 yr This is the gold the rest of the U.S. owes them to take GW back. Please let them have it. I'm sure some of you will be willing to shell some dough out to Hawaii in two years. Lol
July 6, 201511 yr Let Texas leave if they want, their BBQ isn't very good anyway. Plus it's always a billion degrees there regardless of the season.
July 7, 201511 yr It would have been a disaster for both the North and the South. As you mentioned, the South, with no industrial base would have struggled mightily. Also, with states rights being such a big issue for them, and in most cases, slavery was the only common connection. Slavery likely would have went away soon, war or no war, and without that connection, there wouldn't have been much to hold the confederacy together. As for the North, it would have been very vulnerable and weak. DC couldn't have remained the capital as it would have been very difficult to defend. Losing control over the Mississippi River and New Orleans would have been a disaster for trade, especially in South America. This isn't necessarily aimed at you but to the thought that somehow slavery would have somehow ended on its own? Where does that assumption come from? The CSA was built on the notion of slavery and the inferiority of the negro race. Their words in their documents. Couple that with the Reconstruction responses of Southern Leadership with Jim Crow and segregation to hold an entire race in check from the American Dream. What in those facts lead to the supposition it had to end even without the Civil War?

July 7, 201511 yr Serious question.....how can Texas claim gold as theirs? Wouldn't "their" gold belong to the U.S.?
