July 14, 201511 yr Why would someone name their son Courtney Love? Someone needs to answer this question!
July 14, 201511 yr Hey now OSU had a team full of sophomores last year and did ok. It helps when those athletes are 4 1/2 and 5 start players, LOL
July 14, 201511 yr Towles was named the starter. Coach Stoops has not named a starter. The competition will continue into fall camp.
July 14, 201511 yr They beat South Carolina and almost beat Florida I think they will do great this year. Stoops 3rd year no excuses now. I think this is a pivotal year for UK/Stoops. UK has to have a good year in order to keep the recruiting interest buzzing. If this year is ho-hum, then recruiting takes a big hit. If it is a good season, then UK is a "happening place" and recruiting really takes off.
July 15, 201511 yr Why? If Stoops hasn't groomed him to beat out a rookie knucklehead who's never thrown a pass, that's concerning at least to me it is. Changing Coordinators is tough on all the QBs but I bet Stoops tailored it to Towels initially.

Changing Coordinators is tough on all the QBs but I bet Stoops tailored it to Towels initially. Sometimes qb's just don't work out. Joker was praised for what he was able to do with Woodson but couldn't do anything with Newton who I believe was higher rated than Woodson.
July 15, 201511 yr My guess is that, as Stoops's has said, Barker is special and he can't wait to see him take the field because he sees Barker as a "gamer". He sees the benefit in having Drew compete now. It's been noted that Drew's best days in Spring were better than Towles best days. Can only make this team better.

Changing Coordinators is tough on all the QBs but I bet Stoops tailored it to Towels initially. How is that concerning? People seem to forget Towles after a good start struggled big time as the year went on and was very inconsistent. Also don't forget Stoops made Barker his number one target because he wanted Barker to be his guy. Towles was already on the team before Stoops got here. So its not like he had been grooming Towles. In fact I bet he probably wanted Barker to start last year but Barker probably wasn't ready like most true freshman. However we have seen redshirt freshman qbs be very successful in college football the last few years after sitting out a year. You want the guy that gives the team the best chance. Which is why in the end I think Towles will get the nod because of experience but will be on a short leash. If that happens that is not a sign of bad coaching. In fact probably a sign of good recruiting and coaching if a guy takes over for a guy who had a full year SEC experience. That would show the potential and ability of the qb. So it wouldn't be a bad sign at all.

Changing Coordinators is tough on all the QBs but I bet Stoops tailored it to Towels initially. I can see the point being made here and can see both sides of the argument. I don't really know if Drew leading the team some think can finally qualify for a bowl bid is necessarily the best case scenario for UK. That doesn't mean that I don't believe in Drew's talent, he is an exceptionally talented player. If Drew were to beat out Pat, you go to from a returning starter with a year of SEC experience to a redshirt freshman with no experience playing against Auburn, Mizzo, MS ST, Georgia, Tennessee, and a (probably) improved South Carolina and Florida teams. But on the other hand, like FutureCoach said, we have seen quite a bit of freshman and redshirt freshman success in these last few years, especially with a lot of kids that were as highly touted as Drew was coming out of HS.
July 15, 201511 yr No way Stoops hired a OC for one player. He didn't hire him for one player but you can bet your last dollar he made sure he was compatible with Patty. Stoops has one year to keep the momentum going with this program. I would bet that year on the QB that he's coached for a few years vs one who hangs out at EKU dorms, but that's just me. I know that you know Drew personally and I hope he grows/matures as a person. But he has a lot to prove. Stoops walked on campus firing shots at Jokers inability to coach players, saying juco's were the most fundamentally sound, well let's see how groomed Pat is. If he is groomed he could get drafted someday, I don't see the same scenario for Drew but I could be wrong.
