Yes, maybe it was confusing. If you were choosing to go out of district because you weren't comfortable with your district. Let's say I live in Alexandria and don't like the colors purple and gold and wanted go to NCC or HHS. My question was (thinking there were scholarships and assistance) would NCC have the advantage to getting that kid?

I assume that this has to deal with the newscasters kids. My question is if you are a middle school student at a public school, can you participate in the summer at a high school in which you are not a student?

 

I do know what you're talking about, but my question was more general. I have heard of a lot of that going on in some of the private schools in the area. Watching AAU games, etc and inviting kids to come play win the summer with us (us being the high school team in summer HS leagues and scrimmages) and see how you like it.

In fact, in your scenario, it's a disadvantage to HHS. CCHS gets a certain amount of money from the state for each child. If your child ends up at HHS instead of CCHS, CCHS will not release that money to HHS. So advantage goes to CCHS; they are getting money for a kid that they don't have to instruct.

Will Highlands accept kids from out of district if those state funds don't follow? Or does out of district child in that case have to pay "Tuition" to make up the lost funding to Highlands?

HHS will accept kids along as open enrollment is in place and those kids do have to pay tuition. When my son was there, the tuition was comparable to what we were paying for the other kids to attend catholic high schools. I think tuition is mandatory whether the funds come with them or not. I don't think all schools refuse to release that money, btw. I just know that CCHS would not.

Yes, but I've never seen a scholarship over $1,000; most are $500 or so. That doesn't even begin to cover the costs of Catholic school. I'm not sure how many of the scholarships given in Catholic schools are actually from the school; probably very few. Many are set up by families who have attended the school in the past. For example, Bishop Brossart has the Mitch Orth scholarship that was funded by the Orth family through donations/fundraising to honor Mitch's legacy at Brossart after his death.

Kenton county release some of the funds. About half. So if you live in Kenton Co and want to go to HHS, the family only pays half. If you live in Camp co and want to go to HHS, the family pays all of it. HHS gets their tuition either way.

My understanding is that all public schools charge some tuition to out of district students. I was once told that Ludlow only charges $300. At Beechwood, I believe the tuition is currently over $3000 dollars. So there is a pretty wide range of tuition charged by public schools to out of district students. Then of course you have the state funding and other factors that come into play as discussed above. I am curious, what is the current tuition at Highlands?
