Yes. I thought you had to be a student at that school in order to participate in summer activities. If not yet a student, you at least had to be enrolled.

 

Enrolled is key. As a freshman, not only does your 8th grade school year need to be completed, and school year finished, but the gaining school must be finished as well. My son was not eligible to begin freshman football at HHS for a week when he was there because while his school was out, HHS wasn't. So he had to sit and watch for a week, even though he was enrolled.

I should point out that the rules regarding "recruiting" are still in place in the summer.

So if my son will be a senior at Highlands, he can play summer basketball for Newport Central Catholic?

So kids that go to different middle schools in an area are playing on a high school summer team, my guess a private school? Wonder what the coaches think where these kids live about that choice and the school that's allowing it.

My next question...it seems like it may be "accepted" when a private school does it. But if a public school coach asked a student from another public school to come "workout" or play summer leagues with their team, what would be the perception or rules around that?? MS or HS kid?

Don't quote me on this, but I think it's related to the tax money that's paid. Not school allowance from the state. I could be dead wrong though!
