I am guessing that whomever is the guardian or person who is placing him is the one who must be comfortable. I may be wrong, but my experience is that the basketball players that come from a foreign country have little to say about where they take their basketball talents.

Involved in what, this is a young man wanting to enroll in a school to get an education. What would be there for CCH to not accept him, are they saying they are to good and he doesn't belong. I am not Knocking CCH its a great school with great athletics but it doesn't make sense.

Is Cov Cath close to capacity? If they did turn him away maybe this was a factor?

I do not have a dog in the hunt, I feel they are both good schools and each may have taken the right approach. If the report is true that the young man is gone, perhaps the thought of not playing any basketball this year and waiting until next season ultimately did not meet what the guardian felt was best. NCC provided that path and made sure they addressed any academic issues head on even if it meant sitting out this season.

Perhaps CCH could have done the same, but simply realized that was not what the guardian wanted and it would have resulted in an early withdrawal. Both took an approach that should not be faulted. If the report is accurate, it really doesn't matter. no harm, no foul.

I know zero about the CCH-NCC situation here but I believe I saw this young man play AAU ball this past summer. A lot of physical tools are there but skill-wise he's still in the "project" stage, which makes it tough if he only gets to play one year of school ball. I feel for the kid -- I imagine he's under significant pressure and it's hard to tell how much (or little) control he has over his situation.

Or possibly him leaving NCC did not have anything to do with basketball. Maybe after a few days he and/or his guardian realized that he was not going to do well there in the classroom. Not knocking the kid, it's just some schools are harder than others. As far as CCH, maybe they realized this before the kid and guardian.

This is an assumption. I feel we shouldn't be assuming things based upon the situation. The guardian is clearly looking out for the kid if he wants him to get a quality catholic school education. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up. Wether he plays basketball or not.

Very true, I am making an assumption and know nothing about the actual situation and also wish him well. That is why I started the thread acknowledging I was guessing. From past experience and trends I have seen, I am a bit cynical with foreign kids ending up in the states. There is a basketball business of people finding very tall kids and developing them to come over to the US. I am not saying it is good or bad as their lives in the US likely provide more opportunities. But make no mistake that in significant proportions those kids that are very tall are identified for these opportunities than smaller kids. The thread would not have been 9 pages if the young man was 6'0". Unfortunately they are expected to play basketball and driven in that direction with being eligible the main academic goal. The kids have little choice and if they do not pan out, I know of kids that are sent back overseas or essentially discarded. To be clear, I am not saying that about this guardian as I have no clue who he is.

Last I heard from a reliable source was that he was enrolled at NCC as a sophomore for the start of the 2015-16 school year. And must sit out a year for any sport he decides to play. This is valid from about a week ago.

Issues with actual credits and qualifications to be a certain grade level. Major issues with being able to validate prior educational credits and classify correctly.

 

CCH's turn away had absolutely nothing to do with sports. Purely based on academic standing and being able to qualify that standing.

Does anyone else question why the young man was evidently going from school to school, starting in OH then to CCH then to NCC...all of that in early May? What schools are already out in early May? Why wasn't the kid attending somewhere at that particular time? Anyone else question this? Maybe the kid didn't have enough credits because he wasn't going to school? Now he's already dropped out of NCC (supposedly)? The whole thing just smells sour to me. And as someone else said, it may not ne the kid, but his "handlers" pulling all the strings...maybe trying to get some "perks" from someone? Who knows.
