I was at a NCC soccer practice and did not see anyone over 5'8".

I didn't say he was playing for NCC; just heard that he knows how to play. Soccer is probably more common than bball where he comes from.

CCH didn't turn him away, he chose NCC because it was a smaller school FACT, as for basketball only time will tell.

I'm having trouble how CCH wouldn't enroll him as a Jr. but NCC would, if he a Jr. Both are very very good schools and I don't see two schools making different decisions about one kid. Also, knowing how M. Clines from the Diocesan likes to involve himself into things, I'm sure he had some say in this. That's just a guess on my part.

Age would seem to come into factor. If he was supposed to be a junior and likely an older age junior as most foreign kids are, that could be a problem with KHSAA. Unless he is only 16 which is doubtful or nobody would have tried to place him as a junior to begin with, he would have a single year to play if he sits out this season.

Why would he have to sit out if he relocated?

I talked to a parent at CCH tonight. They said after two years of high school in Atlanta he didn't have enough to enroll at CCH. He had fewer than 6 credits and would start there as a 17 yr old frosh. I don't understand why New Cath is thinking about taking him! I guess they will try to do anything to beat Cov Cath! I will give a lot of respect towards the administration at Cov Cath ! They didn't want to take the risk of letting this play! I think this situation brings a lot of red flags!! But good luck to whenever this gentleman plays!

 

Or NCC takes on the task of teaching this young man. If this man was 5'10 and had no athletic ability, I can guarantee the staff at NCC would still take the man. Maybe not everything is about themselves, maybe NCC is just taking on it's role as a Catholic school.....

I can understand this not an NCC alum but I am a product of Catholic schools. I think some forget this and the Catholic mission.

 

Now I can also understand the skepticism of some saying if he wasn't a 7fter who could help the basketball team NCC may not be willing to do this.

Having been associated with the NCC staff and new principal, I have a huge amount of confidence that the enrolment of the young man is not just for a basketball gain.

Guys this is high school. Where is the kid supposed to go to get an education. Is there a possibility the kid just wants to go to school. When/if he appears on a basketball court(which I HIGHLY doubt will ever happen) then start taking shots at him, until then let him just go to school

This is correct. CCH did not in fact turn him away, they told him not to bother even coming over because they were not getting involved with it. This is the fact.

From the outside looking in nobody can fault NCC. Their mission is to provide an education and if a student meets requirements then they have the ability to play their particular sport of choice. If accurate as reported, NCC was requiring the student athlete to sit this year and be eligible the following season. My guess is that would have been the only season of eligibility due to the 19 year age rule for the senior season. Perhaps the plan was to accelerate the young man's credits to reclassify as a senior next season that would have been his final year.

 

It sounded like a great plan and compromise to his situation. Nobody was getting a free pass, it was going to be hard. It was in the best interest of the student athlete and if he withdrew that is on the guardian of the young man as to why they were not willing to stick with it. I wonder where the road leads next for him.

Hopefully he'll find a school where he's comfortable wherever he ends up.
