April 30, 201511 yr I would go see Arnel Pineda, the current lead singer for Journey, perform several times over the course of a 10-14 day trip to Hong Kong every year. He was in the house band at a place called Sticky Fingers. It was a small bar next to the Shangri la hotel. He would come down and have a beer with us after the show. Spoke broken English but you would never know when he sang a song. Always had a smoking hot lead singer he shared duties with.
April 30, 201511 yr Saw Bernadette Peters on Broadway in "Sunday in the Park with George" (1984). I also her in "Song and Dance" (1985). She won her first Tony for this role. She's an incredible stage actress.
April 30, 201511 yr Jefferson Starship with Balin, Slick and Katner in 1977 on the "Earth" tour. (Pablo Cruise was the opener. Remember them?) Electric Light Orchestra in all their glorious spaceship in 1978 on the "Out of the Blue" Tour. Men at Work on their first North American Tour in the early 80's.
April 30, 201511 yr Robin Trower at Riverfront Coliseum in the mid-70's. (and the Monkees at Riverbend w/o Mike Nesmith)
May 1, 201511 yr Saw Jerry Reed at Taft Theater circa 1979. Saw Black Sabbath fronted by Ronnie James Dio at Hara Arena 1992. Saw Tenacious D open for Kid Rock at Freedom Hall 2002.
May 1, 201511 yr Saw the Beatles at Crosley Field. Well then, here's your winner. About as famous as you get, and I doubt any of the rest of us ever caught them live (or were alive when there was a chance to catch them.)
May 1, 201511 yr Maybe it's me, but I am drawing a blank on a lot of the names mentioned. The word "famous" was included in the thread title right?:idunno:
May 1, 201511 yr Saw the Beatles in Memphis in 1966. We were only about 10 rows from the stage....couldn't hear them it was so loud in there. All I remember is screaming girls....I was 11. Also, I saw Tina Turner shortly after she went on her own in the 70's at the Copacabana in New Orleans. I never saw an Elvis concert, but he used to visit a girl that lived across the street from me. I grew up about a mile from Graceland.
May 2, 201511 yr Randy Newman in Lexington fall 2013. I don't remember the exact date. It was an awesome show filled with great songs and hilarious stories. I'd definitely see him again.
May 2, 201511 yr I also caught the Neutral Milk Hotel show in Louisville last weekend. While they're not super famous to the mainstream, there's a very large fanbase and I doubt most BGPers have seen them.
May 2, 201511 yr Saw Bernadette Peters on Broadway in "Sunday in the Park with George" (1984). I also her in "Song and Dance" (1985). She won her first Tony for this role. She's an incredible stage actress. Saw some pretty big names on off-Broadway back in the 1960's including Liza Minelli, Howard Keel, many others.
May 2, 201511 yr Hootie and the Blowfish, Riverbend, ca. 1995. Nickel Creek, Ashland Paramount, late 2000's. Allison Krauss, Rosemary Clooney Festival, Maysville. The Pointer Sisters, same venue, different year.
