"Deep cuts" from popular albums

Featured Replies

Maybe this is more applicable to rock than other genera's of music, I'm not sure. But while listening to my new re-mastered Van Halen I cd I got to my birthday and rocking out to some of the more "less known" songs, I got to thinking about this.

Name some "deep cuts" off of albums you like..."deep cuts" meaning lesser known/lesser played songs off of popular albums. For instance, every rock fan is familiar with "Jamies Crying" or "Running with the devil" on Van Halen I. But far less people are probably familiar with "Little Dreamer"...one of my favorite songs on that album. Take a listen:

Throw in "Feel Your Love Tonight", and "Atomic Punk", as classics for me on that album. Definitely one of my top 10 albums.

"Elderberry Wine"-Elton John from "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player"

"Meeting Across The River"-Bruce Springsteen from "Born To Run"

"What's Happening Brother" and "Save The Children"-Marvin Gaye from "What's Going On"

"You Still Believe In Me"-Beach Boys from "Pet Sounds"

"Simple Twist Of Fate"-Bob Dylan from "Blood On The Tracks"

Great list!

"Ten Thousand Words" from the Avett Brothers' I and Love and You

"Don't Say No" from Billy Squier Don't Say No. Usually the track the album is named for is a big single but in this case it wasn't.

"Ten Years Gone" from Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti

"Your Time is Gonna Come" from Led Zeppelin I

"Nightingale" from the Eagles first album (the "other Jackson Browne song" on the Eagles first album.)

"King of Birds" from R.E.M. Document

"Home at Last" from Steely Dan Aja

Sirius XM has a station called 'Deep tracks'. I listen to it all of the time.

51st Anniversary - Jimi Hendrix

Mandolin Wind - Rod Stewart

Get Rhythm - Johnny Cash

Silver Springs - Fleetwood Mac

Carry Me Home - AC/DC

Shut Out the Light - Bruce Springsteen

Here's a really deep cut for any Nazareth fans. So deep that it wasn't on the album many of you owned. :lol2: This song was only on the international editions of Hair of the Dog. The US edition had Love Hurts in place of this one. The Song was written by Randy Newman.

Speaking of Van Halen.......some of my favorite VH songs on VH2 record would be considered "deep cuts". "Out of Love" and "Light Up the Sky" are essential Van Halen in my book.

"Songbird", Fleetwood Mac, Rumours

"Theme From An Imaginary Western", Mountain, Mountain Climbing

"My Wife", The Who, Who's Next

'Going To California", Led Zeppelin, Untitled

"Hymn 43", Jethro Tull, Aqualung

"The Great Gig In The Sky", Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon

"Ventilator Blues", Rolling Stones, Exile on Main Street

"In The Light", Led Zeppelin, from "Physical Graffiti"

"Monkey Man", Rolling Stones, from "Let it Bleed"

"Sad Cafe", The Eagles, from "The Long Run"

"House of Pain", Van Halen from 1984

"Why Does Love Have to be So Sad", Derrick and the Domino's from "Layla"

"Wild Fire Women", Bad Company from "Straight Shooter"

"S.A.T.O", Ozzy from "Diary of a Madman"

"In The Light", Led Zeppelin, from "Physical Graffiti"

"S.A.T.O", Ozzy from "Diary of a Madman"

Great pick.
