Owensboro in a.close one....playing hot at the right time and with the right matchup against a team that just hasn't faced a team like the Red Devils. Better come to play some physical basketball against Owensboro.

 

Not an issue for Covcath. One of the toughest teams in the state.

I actually had this as my semi-final game in the contest & I had CovCath winning, so I'll stick with that. CCH wins a battle, 60-57.

I'm sorry your boys told you in December that CovCath wasn't very good, and now, 3 months later, they've bumbled their way to the Final Four. Weird...right?

 

Don't worry, Owensboro will win tomorrow and you'll be able to point out that their shortcomings caught up with them. Full vindication.

 

Regardless, tomorrow I get to be IN Kentucky, at Rupp, and attending the two Sweet 16 semis. Doesn't get much better than that.

You seem to be pretty big into Covington Catholic's run, getting to be in Rupp and all. Are you one of the alumnus who goes in and practices with them to get them ready for State or just a guy who is really into this run?

One thing that rarely gets brought up about CCH is their conditioning, especially on a big court. They seem to wear down their opponent and if they are within 8 in 4th quarter they just seem to find a way.

That being said I have no idea who wins this game but until someone beats Colonels they are the team to beat. Good luck to both teams.

Holman is listed at 6'9" and 185 pounds. Miller is 6'7" and 290 pounds. They are a dynamic duo and the CovCath brain trust will be hard pressed to draw up a game plan to stop them. I'm guessing we will see a mix of sagging man and zone.

CovCath had yet to hit their stride in December. Coaches/players were still feeling out their roles on the team. Since January they are 22-2 with the losses coming to Moeller and Dixie, neither of which was a "bad" loss. Team has gelled and is playing well now at the right time. The potential was always there.

Man, if I had known you'd go so far down the wormhole on this issue, I'd never have jokingly brought it up in the Doss thread.

 

To put a bow on this, your friend didn't question CovCath, he said, "...they suck and won't win the 9th..." Sorry I continue to find that preposterous 49 days later.

My guess is CCH uses multiple defenses, including more zone than usual to prevent Owensboro from just dumping the ball in the paint every possession. I also don't think Owensboro shoots that well from outside. Bo can play with Holman as long as he keeps a body on him at both ends. If he doesn't, Holman will eat them up on the boards with his length and athleticism.

 

I've seen several of their games and I don't think that is the case at all. According to the KHSAA website several of their players have been pretty good from beyond the arc this year.

As good as Owensboro's front court is their guard play has impressed me. At the same time CCH is so well coached and disciplined. I'm hoping for a Boyle/CCH rematch on Sunday. We'll see what happens.
