What is going on at CovCath?

I'm not near the situation but would coach Ray step back in for 1 year?

Coach Ray would probably do anything the school asked of him. He''s a Blue Colonel thru and thru. He gave most of his life to build that program. That would probably be one of the best suggestions if he does leave this season.

Anything us Tomcats can do to provide support :thumb:

Does anyone have any proof he is looking for a job? Give the guy a break for a minute. I like the way he has opened up the offense over there and I hope he stays. I think he can give HHS a run for their money if they have a good passing game. If he bails now its startover time and that gives the Birds the edge if they didnt already have it.

I think applying at another school equals looking for a job and I know for a fact that he's applied at at least one other place. And I love the way that people talk up his offense so much, yet he bailed out in the playoffs a round before Coach Ray did in his final year (when he and Hobbs were under the most fire).

With the committee they had hire Rodenberg, they won't ask Coach Ray to return. Everyone on that committee was listening to everyone who said that "his time was up", "he doesn't have it in him anymore", and "hire someone outside the program".

I thought they actually degressed as the year went on....

They seemed to mentally be different. I'm not sure what happened when they took that road trip to Colombus but they were never the same......

I don't doubt that, but look where they got us? I'd say there judgement to this point has not been the best. If we're talking what's best for CCH than If Rodenburg wants to leave, then bring back the real Coach R, Lynn Ray, untill you can get a suitable replacement. How could anybody object to that?

I totally agree, I'd just say don't expect it.

I am going to throw a couple things out there (for sheer sake of conversation)--nothing less/nothing more:

1. Following a legend (or at least a "local legend") isn't the easiest thing in the world. There has to be a few comparisons here/there.

2. Money. Now a private school may be able to supplement a coaches salary, but there has been talk in the past that suggests that Cov Cath doesn't play that way.

3. Maybe KY football ISN'T as EASY as the Coach R thought it would be. One could attribute (at least) some of the success that Cov Cath had to the change in system/philospohy. Remember--by the end of the year--some teams figured out how to stop the vaunted offensive genius.

4. To an Ohio guy--Ohio football will always be king (see the former Ludlow coach).

5. The plan could have always been to use Cov Cath as a stepping stone to a bigger/better job.

6. Cov Cath is NOT a football factory. Pretty much every program is established--and does well. Which means that some of the best athletes are never going to make football #1.

Again--these are random thoughts that have either crossed my mind (which I personally admit--mean nothing) or I have heard in conversation (which again means nothing). But there could be something to some of them.

I agree with a lot of what you posted. I doubt the money issue means much though, because he came from a fairly small private school.

I think number three on your list hits the nail on the head. He knew CovCath has a lot of nice athletes and thought that would be enough to leave the rest of NKY dazed and confused. Obviously the talent and coaching pool in NKY surprised him.

As far as why he was hired in the first place, didn't anyone at CCH notice that McNick was never a world beater in football? They had some success, no doubt, but in Kentucky CovCath is a pretty big time job (the private school pay thing hurts them a bit). I'd think they could find some candidates that would want to be ranked in the top 10 in AAA most every year.

I can tell you first hand that Coach R and his staff (don't forget his asst.) have great football minds. You can not blame a man for looking to improve his financial situation (if he actually did apply at a big OHIO school the money would be more). I want to ask those who are posting against him.

1.-Who did he get beat by this year in the playoffs and what was the score?

2.-Who would not go to another company in the same line of work if it meant you get a raise and better resources to work with? (that is if he was applying at big football program in OHIO). KY lost a coach to GA and ALA (for the same reason).

3.-Trinity's head coach interviewed at another school before deciding to not move and I really did not hear a backlash against him.

4.-Look at the teams they lost to last year: Moeller, Cinn. St X, Watterson, Highlands, Lex Catholic (all great football programs)

5.-Cov. Cath will be a great team next year. Let the man coach without bad mouthing him.

South, I appreciate your post. You make some very good points. However, suffice it to say that there are some things behind the scenes that have happened / didn't happn that make the situation all the more frustrating for those of us that "support" CCH.

Looking at other jobs, in and of itself, isn't the end of the world. If that was the only transgression in a vaccuum then I don't think this thread would even be in existence.

As I said in Post #3, I think he'll be there this year, I HOPE they have a great year, and I hope he gets to the point where he figures out what a great situation (albeit in KY) he has in Park Hills.

Never thought this guy was a good fit for the CCH gang and doubt he will be here after this year. His version of the "Chuck and Duck" may be entertaining but not at all hard for the powerhouse schools in the area to figure out.

The CCH faithful want a CCH guy and that is what they should have hired.

I didn't think he really spread it out as much as everyone thought he would. There is nothing wrong with a guy looking for a new job. Alot of times fans expect loyalty from coaches, when fans have no loyalty to coaches. Does that make any sense

I think there is an appropriate time of year to test the waters and talk to other schools with no harm being done. IMO, once you get past spring ball you jeopardize the kids in your current program by looking for another post.

But, as these late in the game hirings continue, there will always be a snowball effect and there are definitely programs that lose as a result.

Maybe he just wants to get away from, "The Team From Ft. Thomas.":ylsuper:

Why rip a guy for trying to better his situation? Personally I think that taking a job for one year and then bailing is pretty sad, but you cannot fault him for applying to other jobs. Who knows, maybe the big school in Ohio asked him to apply.

As for Ohio being the Mecca! Overall Ohio football is better than KY football. Mainly because all of the D1 schools are the size of Trinity and X or bigger. The parity is much better also. In Division 2 Ohio they have had a different champion every year for 6 or more years.

Kentucky on the other hand. 4A = X or Trinity every year, 3A Highlands or Boyle, Bowling Green, Hoptown, 1A Beechwood, NewCath, Mayfield, Danville.

That type of domination does not happen in Ohio at any level.
