What is going on at CovCath?

I can tell you first hand that Coach R and his staff (don't forget his asst.) have great football minds. You can not blame a man for looking to improve his financial situation (if he actually did apply at a big OHIO school the money would be more). I want to ask those who are posting against him.

1.-Who did he get beat by this year in the playoffs and what was the score?

2.-Who would not go to another company in the same line of work if it meant you get a raise and better resources to work with? (that is if he was applying at big football program in OHIO). KY lost a coach to GA and ALA (for the same reason).

3.-Trinity's head coach interviewed at another school before deciding to not move and I really did not hear a backlash against him.

4.-Look at the teams they lost to last year: Moeller, Cinn. St X, Watterson, Highlands, Lex Catholic (all great football programs)

5.-Cov. Cath will be a great team next year. Let the man coach without bad mouthing him.

Look, he's been here ONE YEAR. I can't blame him for trying to already get a raise and leave too? Either he lied about his intentions when he took the job or the hiring committee screwed up, which is it? I expect more out of a coach at my school. I was spoiled with having a great man who stayed there for 30+ years as his predecessor. I did not like everything about Coach Ray, but no matter how you feel about the man, you have to admit he was loyal to the students and school first and foremost. As a CCH alum I expect the man who represents and leads my alma mater to NOT look for a new job less than one year after his hire. CCH is too great a program to be relegated into a role of a "stepping stone". As it seems verifiable, I hope some severe soul searching takes place with the committee members, as it looks like they will need to reconvene soon.

BTW - What do the assistants have to do with this and who said they weren't any good? This is about him, not his assistants.

Suppose he left today..

What type of applicant pool would they get??

Coaching positions are very dependent on TIMING and FIT between the school and coach. My argument is that if a HC leaves his job in April or May he really forces a school to hire from within or get a lesser quality new coach due to the poor timing.

who said that "his time was up", "he doesn't have it in him anymore", and "hire someone outside the program".

Wasn't the same thing being said about a certain college coach who's in the Big Ten?

I hope your not talking about the coach of that team up north :p

We love how he does against the "Tressell Vest"

Please don't say bad things and get him fired. Stay Lloyd, Stay :jump: :jump:

Several CCH insiders are reporting Coach Rodenberg wants out.

I also understand Coach R applied for and did not get at least one Ohio head coaching position.

Why does Coach R want out?

IMO John Rodenberg is not going anywhere.

I'm really surprised that "Several" CCH insiders are reporting that he wants out.

My son is a graduating senior this year at Cov Cath.. Coach Rodenberg did a GREAT JOB replacing a Legend.

The future is extremely bright at Cov Cath. Next year’s freshman class is one of the largest in many years. Coach R is committed to continue developing the Cov Cath program as one of the states top programs.

I'm just disappointed for the current underclassmen that may come on here and read this junk. Cov Cath players / parents / supporters don’t allow yourselves to be distracted by such a rumor.

All I'm going to say is Coach Rodenberg was an excellent hire for Cov Cath. I just wish my son had another year with Coach Rodenberg and his staff.

Tribe - is it your impression that he did not apply for the Sycamore or Oak Hills job?

I really don't know if he did or didn't.

This has to be true or it couldn't be posted on this site!!!

I would echo those comments. Last year's team may have finished 7 - 5, but (according to the Massey Ratings) played the toughest schedule in the state and ended up the 4th best team in 3A. Geography happened to put two of the three teams ahead of them in the same region.

I think number three on your list hits the nail on the head. He knew CovCath has a lot of nice athletes and thought that would be enough to leave the rest of NKY dazed and confused. Obviously the talent and coaching pool in NKY surprised him.

SM, not trying to be smart, but outside of Highlands and maybe Beechwood, who in NKY wasn't dazed and confused? CovCath posted some convincing wins during the season:

Boone W 50 -19

Dixie W 37 - 3

NewCath W 42 - 0

Beechwood 28 - 14

Highlands L 28 - 21

I thought they actually degressed as the year went on....

They seemed to mentally be different. I'm not sure what happened when they took that road trip to Colombus but they were never the same......

I wouldn't say they "degressed" as much as I would say the schedule toughened up. X won the Ohio D1 state championship, Moe was good (Henderson Co would attest to that), and playing at a physical Columbus Watterson the week after an emotional game with Cincy X is not ideal scheduling. What can I say about the CovCath/Highlands rivalry that hasn't been already said. CovCath played eventual state champ LexCath tooth and nail, the 42 - 39 shootout being the closest game LexCath had in the playoffs.

Tribe - is it your impression that he did not apply for the Sycamore or Oak Hills job?

I know that he did not physically go out and apply for the Oak Hills job, but that he was contacted by Oak Hills themselves about the job. Can you really blame someone for listening?

I think there is an appropriate time of year to test the waters and talk to other schools with no harm being done. IMO, once you get past spring ball you jeopardize the kids in your current program by looking for another post.

But, as these late in the game hirings continue, there will always be a snowball effect and there are definitely programs that lose as a result.

Come on Charlie, you were messing around with the Irish before your teams biggest game of the year.:D

Dazed and confused???? Looks like he put a hurting on some very good NKY teams. Maybe he's looking for better competition.:D

I would think that the CovCath job would be more attractive than Oak Hills job. Whether he made the first move or they contacted him, looks like that has upset the main people in charge.
