March 17, 201511 yr Love Cingrani as a competitor and as a Red. Do not think he's a great starting pitching option. Always feels like once a lineup goes through him twice he gets hammered around the 6th or 7th inning. I have no stats to back that up, I just feel like that's what happens with him.
March 17, 201511 yr Cingrani throws a ton of fastballs--around 75% of the time. And that's actually an improvement over 2013 when he threw them 84% of the time. He's more the pitcher that we saw last season than the one from 2013. In 2013, he had a .241 batting average on balls in play. Last season it jumped to .292, which is more in line with the league average. His line drive percentage, fly ball percentage and ground ball percentage all stayed pretty consistent. That means that he got a little bit lucky on balls in play in 2013. Last season his strikeouts went down by about 1 strikeout per 9 so there were a few more balls in play as well. That being said he's got a really nice fastball for a lefty. He's also more effective against LH batters than RH batters, but he's okay against RHs. Those two facts make him suited to be an asset out of the pen. I'd much rather see him be an effective setup guy than a middling starter. I don't see this as a negative--just the team using him in the role he is most suited for.

His ERA stays pretty average from innings 1-5, then in the 6th inning it jumps to 6.61

That's only if he makes it past the 5th inning with less than 100 pitches
