I'd see what I have with a healthy Cingrani. You know what you have with Marquis. Cingrani had 7 IP and 1 ER not sure how Marquis "earned" it more in 2 more innings.

March 18, 201511 yr Cingrani has one pitch. Why do people keep thinking he's got a future as a starter? He obviously needs to use and work on his other pitches. Not going to get much of that throwing 1 inning every 2-3 days. Marquis is a bum and his career numbers prove that.

Absolutely correct. Unfortunately for the Reds, he's a bum that's still better than any other options they have.

The numbers are what they are but it's not impossible for him to get better. He needs innings to work on his pitches. I just think it's worth the potential for a bad year from him to get some work on those things and truly see what we have. He might end up back in the bullpen but I'd like to find out for sure.

Then send him to AAA. The fact that he's been around as long as he has in the organization and hasn't found it necessary to develop other pitches is telling IMO. Maybe he's not capable?
March 18, 201511 yr Sometimes guys just can't figure out that second pitch and this move is inevitable. The numbers Average Joes posted Cingrani is #1 in FB% during that time and it isn't even close. Middle of the road starting pitchers are much more available than dominant lefty relievers. Make him an asset and move on.

March 18, 201511 yr Bailey had 1 pitch. Bailey has always had multiple pitches. His secondary pitches have improved greatly, but they've always been there. Not even close to being true for Cingrani.

If that’s a surprise, it’s only because after they shed Alfredo Simon and Mat Latos over the winter, the team might now actually start the season with one (or both!) of Paul Maholm and Jason Marquis in the rotation. As Dave Cameron laid out yesterday, that’s absolutely no way for a team on the fringes of contention to be operating. Cingrani isn’t pleased about it, but let’s be honest and admit that he seemed like a future reliever from the day he set foot in the big leagues. In a short cameo at the end of 2012, he threw 90% fastballs. In 104.1 innings in 2013, he threw 81% fastballs, trying desperately to find a useable second pitch. Last year, he got that down to 73%, but he also missed a considerable portion of the season with a shoulder injury, not pitching at all after June 19.
