theguru Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Johnson signed a five-year, $43.75 million contract last year and provided 27 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles in 14 games with the team. The Bucs will get $2 million back under the cap, but they owe Johnson $7 million fully guaranteed, with no offset. Making the move now keeps another $7 million from becoming fully guaranteed. The Bengals are believed to be interested in having Johnson return to the team he played for during his first five seasons. Johnson had 26.5 sacks for the Bengals during that time and he should come a lot cheaper than he did last offseason. Bucs cut Michael Johnson a year after signing him | ProFootballTalk
futurecoach Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I hope the Bengals resign him. As I mentioned in the other thread, I love for the Bengals to sign both guys that they lost last year to the Bucs in Collins and Johnson.
ESPNdeux Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Rumors are Zimmer and the Vikings are after him as well... Hate to say this because you don't want to jinx it, but you gotta think the Bengals are the favorites if the money is right... By all accounts, he's still got a lot of friends in the DLine room...
NEERFAN Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I'd prefer Johnson over Fairley if it came down to it.
uk#1fan Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I'd prefer Johnson over Fairley if it came down to it. Sign Johnson draft Goldman.
Bengal Maniac Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 He is getting 7M from the Bucs regardless, it won't take a ton to get him for two years. I think the Bengals have the best chance, however, Zimmer is a worry with the Vikes. He probably loves Zim. Another plus for the Bengals is John Thornton is his agent, however, JT will guide him in his best interest. They will not sign both MJ and Fairley, I would think. Their Free Agents next year will cost some big time dough and there are a bunch, starting with Whit, AJ, Zeitler, Iloka, A Jones, M. Jones on and on.

Also on Johnson, he made out like a bandit with money in Tampa and he did really well in Cincy because he got tagged three years ago. If Johnson chooses the Vikes over the Bengals (even though I assume the Vikes may offer a little more) it tells me Johnson may have some slight aversion when it comes to the Bengals.
ESPNdeux Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 John Thornton was quoted as saying that he and the Bengals both regretted that they didn't 'work harder' at getting a deal done for him to be here...
