Stephen A Smith Suggests Racism in Chip Kelly's Roster Moves

Featured Replies

He's said some stupid things. This one is of that same ilk.

From the article:

So what Smith did on ESPN First Take today is he merely implied that Kelly is a racist, going over a selection of Kelly’s recent roster moves and then hinting that Kelly might not want black players in his locker room.

“Chip Kelly makes decisions over the last couple of years that, dare I say, leave a few brothers feeling uncomfortable,” Smith said. “I think that’s fair to say. I mean, we’re sitting here looking at some of the decisions that Chip Kelly makes and I’m like what is up? What’s up with that? I mean, it’s like you’ve got to be his kind of guy, you know? And I’m like, well, Riley Cooper’s your kind of guy?”

Is Frank Gore not black enough? Maxwell?

One of these days Stephen A. is going to say something that he can't recover from. I'm extremely hopeful that this may be it. Dude needs to just go away.

And as the article mentioned, his point is proven incorrect by the signings of guys like Gore and Maxwell, as well as the release of guys like Casey.

Without reading everything, I find it hard to believe (problem players aside) that any NFL coach would go with anything other than the players that give his team the best chance to win.

Not if he wanted to stay in the league. Stephen A. went too far on this one. But he will likely not get called on it. So, is the race issue perpetuated when he does junk like this? Or no big deal?

This tool needs to be shown the door before he really embarrasses himself.

Sorry too late.

I actually agree with Stephen A. more often than not. Could not disagree more on this one though. No way and NFL coach is going to get rid of players due to race...too much pressure to win.

Normally, @theguru gets on here with his conspiracy theories and I chuckle at the audacity without acknowledging a possibility. I'm not saying that I 100% agree with Stephen A. I am not going to blatantly disregard it either.

This comes to light and, all of a sudden, Frank Gore has doubts about signing with Philly? I don't know, but Stephen A. made me think a bit with his take.

I like listening to Stephan A. but can't agree with him on this one. I think Chip Kelly is simply saying something along the lines of "I'm smarter than the rest of you, and Oregon's system (and a bunch of their players) is the system that will work in the League".

Stephen A is actually normally hesitant to blame race. He's moderate when it comes to the issue and so for a second I had to give it a thought. It just doesn't make sense didn't Kelly coach at Oregon where a majority of his stars were black. Not to mention the amount of black players on the team currently.

I think it's more of an ego thing where he feels on offense he doesn't need to pay to dollar and can fill people in anywhere and win.

I really can't stand Stephen A. Smith, probably more than any other talking head. This just provides another reason for me to change the channel and station.

0-16. That's what an all-white team in the NFL looks like.
