What a Trinity centered world we live in. Trinty fans "close" to the situation. That have "solid" source. That know more of the truth than a guy who lives IN Bentonville and is such a big fan of his team he researched a KY website to learn about a potential coach.

 

Well, I know the two posters who have said they have solid sources. You can't get any closer to the situation that the two of them. I'm not close at all to the program. But they definitely know those in the know well.

Agreed. A lot of this could be over a phone call, realize its not a good match, and gracefully decline on both ends. Happens all the time.

 

 

Been through things like this several times and many times you are correct whether it is face to face or a phone call. Usually, the deal breaker is $$. Sounds like that $$ is not much of an issue in Bentonville, but there is a limit.

 

Let me use this scenario. The numbers may be way off, but the concept happens a lot with successful coaches.

 

AD or Principal or Superintendent- "You are a strong candidate and will certainly be in the running. You must keep the present staff, the schedule is set and I make those decisions with your input, and the most we can pay is 125K.".

 

Prospective coach - "I need to determine the schedule, I have 3 coaches I want to bring with me and I make 100K now, I need 150K to make a move, plus the school pay my moving expenses".

 

They talk and agree that these thing are non-negotiable on each side and they move on.

I'd be willing to bet the only people who ABSOLUTELY know how this "negotiation" went down are Bob Beatty and his immediate family and the committee in AR. If I know Beatty, i'd also bet that he didn't let one word slip to Dr. Mullen, Rob Saxton or any of the admins at Trinity about the intricate details of this process.

 

That being said, I can't see any reason why Trinity would "allow" another school the chance to woo him, especially this late into the offseason. It would be extremely detrimental to the conditioning program and implementation process if Trinity had to conduct a search to hire a new coach or coaches...

Here's a thought..... Maybe the powers the be at Trinity are fed up with BB looking at other opportunities and gave him a deadline for a decision of today or threatened to let him go outright. That timeline doesn't necessarily jive with the timeline that the AD at Bentonville has to make a decision (which it doesn't by the way), because he's yet to interview the field. ***Likely a byproduct of having his name released in the paper as having applied for the position. Trinity gets anxious and wants an answer. Timeline gets accelerated because in a normal process, Trinity would not have known he'd even applied for the job***

 

Unless BB signed a contract at Trinity, his "I'm staying at Trinity" declaration is just buying time until the details get worked out. If he's offered the job, he burns a bridge that he'll never cross over again in Kentucky. If he doesn't get the job, he stays at Trinity, no harm, no foul, and no one wiser knows the difference.

Bit of a distraction starting up but bottom line is Trinity retained one of the best coaches out there who has done a lot to enhance the image of KY Football and I for one am glad they did.

Coach Quire back in the early days is the only one to stay more than a year without a title. During Dennis Lampley's first stint as coach (1978 and 1979 he also didn't win one, but he came back as coach from 1985 through 1994 and won five.

I might be way off base but I don't know if I agree with you. I tend to think Trinity is the type of place where the power players keep each other informed when it comes to such sensitive issues. Maybe not every detail, but at least informed.
