In the early 90's, CovCath and Holy Cross were in there on district and Holmes was in another. I remember one year Holy Cross and CovCath were 1 and 2 in the region and played first round in the district at Beechwood due to the blind draw.

Well I don't have a dog in this fight, but a few years ago Holy Cross won the All A state title, and didn't make the regional thats a bummer for those kids. I think they could have made some noise in the regional tournament. Now as far as moving Louisville schools out of the region, no. However, I do think re-districting every few years is beneficial.

 

I agree 100% it was a bummer for those kids. But it's also a bummer for every group of kids that don't make the regional tournament. If they were meant to make noise in the region that year, they would've taken care of business in that double OT (or was it triple?) loss to Cov Cath when Holy Cross was the district #1 seed.

 

I have no dog in the fight either, but the districts being grouped geographically makes far better sense than moving districts around because of recent success (or lack thereof) of 3 or more district members.

Could next year finally be the year Holy Cross returns to the regional tournament? I think so. This district is loaded every year with CCH, Holmes, and Holy Cross. One of them needs to be put in a different district, I think this would make for a more interesting regional tournament. If Holy Cross or CCH were moved into Dixie's district this would allow for more parity in the ninth region as a whole.

 

I can see HC making the region next year. They return everybody from this years team except Siebert. Another year in Schrand system will help them for sure. CC will be tough but don't see Holmes being a top team in the region next year. So I don't see why they couldn't make it.

To your first point I totally agree with you, we had no business losing to Cov Cath that night.

 

To your second point, geography is obviously not what the KHSAA goes by. I live 4 blocks from Holy Cross and 4 blocks the other way is Taylor Mill( which is Scott's school district) who is in the tenth region. If I drive to the Courthouse of my own county in Independence, I'm now in SK's district, who is in the 8th region.

Totally agree with what you're saying but can you answer me one question, why did Ludlow and Beechwood switch Districts in the 05/06 season? There were no consolidations that I can remember?

 

Look, you can say all you want about talent in each District coming around and going around, but CCH and Holmes have talent year in and year out, heck they have each won the state in the past 6 years.

 

Like I said earlier, the District is what it is and I'm not complaining about it at all and there is really nothing any of us can do about it so we will go out and play the games and try not to think about it!!

No doubt CovCath and Holmes consistently have decent talent. Holy Cross in their rich history have had their share as well. In recent years not as much as CCH or Holmes, but aside last year's lopsided season for them, they're a school that consistently strives at being competitive, and have had some excellent teams that have had good success in years even when they haven't made it to the Regionals.

 

It's not entirely out of the realm of possibilities that they in the near future just might get there. About 5 years ago even Beechwood was fortunate enough to suit up a bunch of talented kids with a good coach and they slayed the CovCath dragon in the semi's of the district to get there. What can you do? Some schools are more consistent at it than others. It is what it is. Some schools never have enough talent, but you gotta put them somewhere.

Holmes returns ALOT next year...obviously losing Bolden and Avery will hurt but they will return enough to be top 2 or 3 in region. Now after next year, you might be right

Holmes will still have an awesome backcourt next year with Commodore, McClendon and Mullins. Moore, Greene and Arnold will provide them with some solid bigs. Then they will also still have Daniels and Englemon, one of which could start instead of Commodore. I expect LJ Miller to contribute next year as well. I dont think next year is the year for HC to get out of districts.
