Covington Catholic High School is pleased to announce that Eddie Eviston has accepted the position of Head Football Coach.

 

“My family and I are extremely excited about this opportunity to be the next head coach at Covington Catholic High School,” says Mr. Eviston. “It is no secret that great things are happening there and we are looking forward to being a part of it. I want to thank Mr. Rowe, Mr. Guidugli, and everyone else who has been involved in this process for their commitment and belief in me to lead this tradition-rich football program. I also need to thank Georgetown College and Coach Cronin for all they have done for me and my family over the last 2 years. We cannot wait to get to work on this next chapter in our lives and continue the tradition of excellence that is Covington Catholic and CovCath football!”

 

Mr. Eviston comes to Covington Catholic from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky, where he has been the offensive coordinator since January, 2013. Under his leadership, Georgetown averaged 506 all-purpose yards per game for the last two seasons and finished the 2014 season ranked 9th nationally in scoring offense.

 

Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Mr. Eviston was the head coach at Newport Central Catholic High School from 2010-2013. During his tenure as the head coach at NCC, Mr. Eviston compiled a record of 35-8 and led the Thoroughbreds to the KHSAA class 2A state championship in 2010 and 2012. Prior to being the head coach, Mr. Eviston was an assistant coach at NCC from 2006-2010.

 

Mr. Eviston was a standout student-athlete at Newport Central Catholic, earning 2nd team All-State honors in 1996 and winning the prestigious “That’s My Boy” award from the National Football Foundation in 1997.

 

 

As a player at Georgetown College, Mr. Eviston was a two year team captain, 3-time NAIA National Player of the Year, a 3-Time All-American, and was a member of the 2000 and 2001 national championship teams. He compiled a 41-1 record as a starting quarterback at Georgetown, and was also a National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award Finalist.

 

 

Eddie, his wife, Selina, and their three children will relocate to Northern Kentucky in the coming months.

 

 

Covington Catholic Athletic Director Mike Guidugli says of the hire, “Eddie is a very impressive young man who has achieved success at every level in football, as a player and as a coach. We are confident that his enthusiasm along with his leadership skills will inspire our student-athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the field. We are very pleased to have him join the CCH coaching staff, and look forward with excitement about the future of the CCH football program.”

 

 

Coach Eviston will be available for a press conference at Covington Catholic High School (Multi-purpose room) at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, February 10th, and will be introduced at halftime of the home varsity basketball game Tuesday evening (7:30 pm game).

As Clyde asked in that thread, though, any idea what his job will be on the school's staff? What did he teach while he was at New Cath?

He didn't teach at Newcath, but rather worked in their office. In fact, I don't believe he is a teacher, but I could be wrong.

He was in charge of their capital campaign, but due to cutbacks within the Diocese his position and many like them were cut.

For those who have alluded to Eddie's departure from New Cath as being any kind of "running out on his program"...I think this is a great piece if info suggesting that wasn't exactly the case.

He had to leave NewCath he didnt have a job there other than football coach and we all know that doesnt pay the bills. If there was an open position within the school I doubt he would have ever left. Great Hire and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish at CovCath. Great athletes great fans and community support. Not that it matters but just out of curiosity did Eddie contact CovCath about the job or did CovCath contact Eddie first?

Good info there. As for your question, I'm thinking that's something we might have a little difficulty getting a straight answer from anyone about.

Congratulations Coach Eviston! Great hire for CovCath. Eddie did a great job up on the hill and I was sad to see him go.

 

He is just what the blueboys need to breathe some fresh air into the program. I wish him and CovCath nothing but the best (except for 1 or 2 games, of course!)
