Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet. Badenhop is a legit big league signing that I definitely didn't expect. He will be a nice improvement for the pen and is a perfect fit for GABP. The Gregg signing is low risk and it can never hurt to sign guys like that. I like what the Reds have done in adding some arms this winter with experience.

A groundball specialist who will turn 32 on Sunday, Badenhop posted a 2.29 ERA in 70 games last season for the Red Sox. Over 70 2/3 innings, he had a 61 percent groundball rate. He surrendered just one home run among his 70 hits allowed , walked 19 (five intentional) and had 40 strikeouts.

Kevin Gregg is one of my least favorite pitchers in the league.

He'll fill JJ Hoover's role well.

What do you mean? J.J. Hoover had one bad season, and you are ready to write him off? J.J. will be back with the Reds this spring and put last season behind. He has great arm and I look for him to bounce back.

As bad as I hate to agree with CC on anything...Hoover is awful. Would prefer to see him pitching against us instead of for us.

Hoover was brutal last year but I would not give up on him yet. Let him try out this spring and see how he does compared to the other guys. Sometimes pitchers have years where nothing works (especially relief pitchers since they don't throw that many innings - a few bad outings really inflates the ERA). There is a lot of luck in pitching...line drives can be right at guys and simple ground balls can find holes. I think Hoover did not have a good year last year but also had no luck at all. That could all turn around this year...and he does have a major league arm.

Giving up almost 2 home runs and 4.5 walls per nine innings isn't bad luck. A bunch of seeing-eye singles is bad luck. You can't play defense against balls that land on the other side of the fence or free passes.

Exactly, the Braves didn't dump him for no reason.

Hoover stinks.

Hoover is awful. I'm thinking he won't make the trip north this year. Like these signings, especially the Badenhop one.

No doubt Hoover was terrible last year. In prior years, he was OK, not great but OK. I am just saying let him tryout and see what happens. They have lost some relievers from last year and I am not exactly sure what they have back. I heard the Cowboy talking about him not long ago and he was saying he thinks he can bounce back. Maybe he is just putting a happy face on things but I don't see how it hurts to see. If he does not make the team, believe me, I will not be upset as that means he was beat out.

The Gregg signing intrigues me. If he is healthy again, he could be a steal - was nasty two years ago.
