If maliciousness isn't a factor then the fouls by Mercer in the last minute (to put Boyle on the line) were also intentional. So, if refs started a literal interpretation of the "play on the ball" rule, it would change things drastically.

If they interpret that too strictly, then just about every foul late in a game, to stop the clock and put a team on the line, would also be intentional. Again, some common sense has to be used. There's no question it was the player's intent to prevent the player from getting an easy basket. Difference in this vs late game foul you mention is the potential for injury with an airborne player.

I can think of thousands of times I have watched games on TV or in person and watched a guy grab another player to foul him at the end of a game with no play on the ball whatsoever just to get him on the free throw line. You have to use common sense when calling or NOT calling an intentional. That's what the ref did here.

There's a serious risk of injury when someone tries to explode to the basket and gets held to the ground. Very, very serious.

I thought the play where Elkins took Dow out was worse than the other play. Swinging an elbow through to get the shot off resulted in a serious injury. He could have turned the other way and easily have got the shot off.

I'm a fan of neither team, but you can't be serious by that statement? I mean I understand your opinion, but you saying you would take him 8 days a week makes me think you would take Bell over Taylor and it's not even close? Look I know Boyle has had problems with Taylor in the past for his on court antics, but IMO Taylor is the pest PG in the state. If Bell could distribute 90% of his touches and shoot 10% of his touches then I think we would have an argument. He's score first, when Taylor is score last. Once again just my opinion, but you saying that made me wonder if you really thought Bell was that much better then Taylor. Just not the case.

To me, this is an intentional foul because the defender grabbed his upper arms and shoulders and held him down. It was just called a hard foul in the game. What say you referees of BGP?

 

 

Live I didn't think it was intentional. However seeing it again, and from a completely different angle, I could certainly see it being called intentional. If forced to say I think it probably should have been.

Agree to disagree. I especially love when people say Jeremiah doesn't distribute the ball without looking at his assist totals for the season. I'm also partial to PGs who can score the ball. Timmy is a tremendous player and IMO one of the top 5 PGs in the state. Without a doubt. People like different things in different players and I simply choose Jeremiah over Timmy. I'm not going to get into all the reasoning behind it because they are both great players and to start to pick apart their games and their styles could come off as insulting to some people and I'm not trying to insult Timmy at all. I'd take Timmy Taylor at PG over 95-98% of the PGs in this state.
