Is the entire stadium at Harlan chairbacks? That would be impressive if it is.

Mayfield listed at 5,000.

Br. Thomas More Stadium at St. Xavier - 6,000 seats. Crowds near 7,500 and higher on big home game Friday nights.

Each of the Fayette County stadiums are pretty nice in size. I think that Lafayette has the nicest stadium of them all, but that is my opinion. Dunbar has a huge home side, but the visitors seating is very small due to the access road that runs right behind the stadium. the rest of the visitor stands in the city are pretty nice. They are all pretty cookie cutter, that is the FCPS way. 4 of the 5 have basically the same concession/restroom complex in one end zone, the only one that doesn't is Dunbar which has theirs under the home stands (you miss a lot of the game if you go to get something to eat during live play) All are turf, & have all been done in the last 10 years. Very little is different from place to place outside of entrance & exits & all of them have ample standing room 'IF" the stands would ever get filled to capacity. (That hasn't happened in quite some time unfortunately)

Mayfield is around 5,500 on the home side per my rough estimate while sitting in the stands a couple years ago. A simple number of seats per section X number of sections. There is also some seating on the visitors side.

 

As for the KHSAA site in regard to the stadium numbers, I think many are someone guessing

DuPont Manual seats 10,000.

I believe Manual Stadium is 10,000.

 

KHSAA has it even bigger than that at 11463!!!

I'm not sure if Harlan County is bigger than Tilghman, but there isn't much difference. The chairback seats at Harlan make it exceptional, though. The area around the facility at Harlan County is also top notch. I'd recommend anyone who likes high school football to go to a game there at least once.

 

And, as the announcer reminded us a few years ago when HHS played there, "lighted by the power of COAL!!!"

That's an impressive facility. I assume the chairbacks are for season ticket holders? That's a similar setup to what Putnam is now. About 2/3rds of the home side is reserved chairbacks. The rest of the home side is backed bleachers. The visiting side and endzone is just bleachers.

It’s some really impressive stadiums around the state of Kentucky, I’ve been too 10 on this list.

I'm with the previous poster... many of these numbers are just estimates submitted to the KHSAA, and in some cases, they're underestimates. 

I do think that most HS folks have a misconception of how many people are at games. 2,500 paying spectators is a LOT of people. 

But to be fair, I have been to many a college sporting event where they would announce the attendance, and when you look around, you just chuckle at the absurdity of the number they are claiming. 

I have no idea, but you would think there would be a standardized formula for calculating capacity.  You would think fire departments would require it.  

I say this because some schools numbers are higher than other schools, and the "smaller stadium" is definitely bigger than the larger capacity one listed.

Standard allowance for bench seating is 18" per person. or 2 persons per yard. So if for instance your bleachers on the home side go from the 25 to the 25 (50 yards) that would be a listed capacity of 100 people per row. So if the bleachers go up 25 rows while stretching from the 25 yd line on one end to the 25 on the other end, the listed capacity for the home bleachers would be 2500. The same measurement is standard in gyms as well.

I'm sure most of the capacity numbers claimed are based on that number. Even though we all know bleachers are never packed that tightly. Some newer construction uses 24" per seat instead of 18" which would give an even lower capacity number for stadiums.
