Here's my two cents worth. And those who have read my posts know that I am a fan of McDonald's however, NOT related as indicated in a previous thread, just a big fan of him, his overall demeanor and game play. Weyer is a nice player. Saw the game last night. He does some really nice things. He was the scorer last night, no doubt. However McDonald had two guys assigned to him the entire night, most times three when he got the ball below the foul line. He still managed 12 points and 16 rebounds. That's quite impressive. What I like most about him is not only his consistent stats, but the way he gets the ball into his teammates hands when he is double and triple teamed. He had 5 assists along with his points and rebounds. He also did a great job leading the break with his full court passes for lay-ups. I don't believe he was awarded assists for those or he would've had more than 5 assists. Weyer did a great job putting the ball in the basket and swatting some shots (I do believe McDonald had his share of blocks as well, just weren't as entertaining.)

 

I don't want to upset the apple cart because this team can be special, but if I was to start a team, I'd take McDonald first every day of the week. He makes EVERYONE around him better. Weyer's lack of passing skills, both in the open court and when tied up, lack of ball handling, albeit they are improving, and lack of running the "high" portion of a high/low with McDonald, is what he is lacking now. I don't recall seeing any assists in Weyer's stats, however I could be wrong. McDonald's IQ is far greater than Weyer's as well.

 

I don't mean to point Weyer's deficiencies out, just defending who I think is not only the best player on that team, but in the region, and one of the top in the state. Don't disregard him because he didn't put as many points on the board as Weyer has the last few games.

 

Is Spalding not the best on Trinity's team simply because Levitch or another of their many talented players may out score him from time to time?

 

What about Justice? If he is double and triple teamed yet gets the ball into Hall's hands for a higher percentage shot that night, does that knock him down as well? Or does it actually make him a better player for seeing what's best for the team on that given night.

 

What about Tyler for Boyle Co. Only seen them play once however if Bell or Elkins out scores him a few times, I'm still taking Tyler because of his over all game.

 

Don't get me wrong, Weyer has a bright future and again, I don't want to anything to come between the players on NCC's team, but the focus McDonald gets actually opens up Weyer to be able to do a little more. Weyer very well may have an easier time scoring and doing some things this year than he will next. Just my opinion.

Although Qryche11 was making a comparison, he was hardly knocking him.

 

Drew is undoubtedly awesome, and I don't think anyone could disagree, but his points about Weyer's all around game, and taking nothing away from Drew, made a world of sense.

 

Even with his present greatness, we have not yet seen what Weyer can ultimately achieve, and thankfully he still has the rest of this, and next season to show us. Looking forward to seeing his stock rise as I've no doubt that it will.

He is putting a lot of pressure on himself instead of just going out there and playing carefree with nothing to lose, like last year.

 

Obviously Newcath is VERY GOOD, but Ethan hasn't shot the ball as well this year because of how much he's having to do for Newport. Paul Price has been a nice piece to help him out but outside of him, against teams like this, Newport simply doesn't have enough help to keep the defense from keying on Ethan.

Wow!!!!! Did you really just take a shot at a teammate to try and make one look better in the eyes of those that were not at the game? My point is that both are good players and just because one gets talked about does not justify trying to put him down in order to boost someone else up. Expect better on this website to say the least.

 

Now if those on the hill are so upset with Weyer's game, please let him know about it and I am sure that he will be welcomed back to Highlands with open arms.

Sorry, but you said defending in the above post. Comparisons are much different than critiques. Most of us just said one could do some things better than the other and vice versa. You tried to point out flaws. I am with JOAT on this one, too close to the situation. You took it way to personal.

Not sure of your reasoning here of Snapp shooting % dropping. Newport returned 5 key players from last years team? Turner is the only one who graduated 7.7 PPG and 4.5 RPG. Is Ochoa still on the roster? He has played in 9 games but was not currently listed on the KHSAA roster.

He is a great player and my guess is he will have his numbers back to where they were last year by the end of the season. His FG shooting is down from 42-36% and his 3 point % is down 39-32% His PPG about the same.

There's absolutely no reason to tear a player apart to promote another player, especially when you know DAMN well these kids get on here and actually read this stuff. Hell, after the St. Louis Christian game they were sitting in McDonalds talking with each other about what was written on here by posters. You should be ashamed for trying to knock a kid down to put another on a pedestal. These boys bust their butts day in, day out in practice and don't deserve to have their hard work torn apart. If anything, that post has shown your lack of a basketball IQ and how blinded you are by a favorite player (especially apparent from your post history) rather than watching the whole game.

 

Both of these boys have different strengths and weaknesses, but to outright say Weyer lacks the ability to pass is a laugh. Same for a lack of ball handling. Does the ball just like bounce off his face when he tries to dribble as he trips over his shoes?

 

 

If you want to promote a player, then sing their praises, don't tear someone else down. THAT is how you support them. Not by pointing out one players "deficiencies" and then another players strengths. That's not a comparison, and is a half-hearted way to try to show support.

 

Let the kid get some hype for his play, especially when he dedicates himself year round and is finally seeing the kind of stud results he's been working for. Damn, the competition is hard enough in Louisville, they don't need it here as well.

 

To the players that get on here, don't pay attention to the negative things people may say. You do you, keep playing and keep improving, and don't give things like that a second thought. Focus on your goals and stick to them, because at the end of the day, you're crushing it on the court hopefully having a blast, and doing what you love.

 

 

Think before you post, especially when you try to tear apart a kid who has been working for years and is getting results.

 

 

Who needs assists anyway when everything you're putting up has been on point. :lol:
