BluegrassPreps.com Boys Rankings (1-5-15)

Where and when is the game between Knott Central and Hopkinsville? That game should tell a lot about both these teams. Knott is very good. Their only weakness could be they don't have a very deep bench. I would imagine that Hoptown would have the advantage in depth. But if Knott can stay out of foul trouble they are as seasoned and dangerous team as there is in the state.

Very interesting matchup.

Thanks. I may have to venture up that way and check out that game.

Can't wait to see what these look like next week.

It looks really good. I'm not sold on Holmes as top 20 (sorry Walter), but everything else is at the very least reasonable.

I would also drop Southwestern a little bit. I think they are closer to 25 than 15, but not bad.

Through the first 10 games, I would've agreed with you....but they are playing at a much higher level lately. Tough to drop them out of the top 20 when they have won 7 straight and have beaten teams they're supposed to, unlike some of the other teams who have fell out of the rankings.

They struggled to finish games early, hence the losses to Henry Clay and Bullitt East in which they blew late double digit leads, but they have looked much better lately and really grown as a team. Outside of Bolden and McClendon, they had no other kids that had ever started varsity basketball before this year. Those kids have figured out what it takes to win at this level and it's starting to show in their progress.

We will know in about two weeks just how much they've improved when they play at Mason Co (1/20), v Covcath at BOKC (1/23), and v Trinity (1/24) in a 5 day span.

To add to this I'll say that Holmes doesn't have any bad losses unlike a team like Southwestern who has some great wins but some horrible losses.

Correct.

Should be favored at Mason County, CovCath a tossup, and an underdog vs. Trinity. PLay well during that stretch and they solidify their spot.

I will give you East jess as a horrible lose but the Waggener game I don't consider horrible. Waggener is rated higher than the top team in regions 13, 15 and 16. SW plays a lot of young kids and they will loose another one that they shouldn't before the year is up. Waggener is not a bad team. SW should have beat them but its not a horrible lose. SW was on their 9th game in 14 days also. Waggener was also though.

Folks were saying that Waggener was missing a starting forward and backup PG.

Sw was missing their normal water boy. He was out sick. The H2O was not up to par for this game. H2O was not top quality. This caused a lot of dehydration and confusion. lol I agree SW should win this game but its not a horrible lose. jmo

:lol2:

Nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree.

All 4 teams have bad loses except for Lincoln. Wayne Co only because of the margin to Sw. That will not happen again. Wayne to experienced.

The problem I see with them is that they have two losses to teams that aren't ranked (both teams are very good, but just out of top 20 range), and no good wins. I wouldn't be surprised if they become a top 20 team in the next couple of weeks, but their current results don't merit ranking quite yet.

What team are you talking about?

To be fair...Henry Clay was first game of the year and Listerman played a lot of kids that aren't seeing the minutes now that they saw that game.

And the Bullitt East game, Holmes had an 11 point lead with just over 2 mins left and absolutely blew it. Forget the turnovers....if they make their ft's down the stretch, they win. Nobody in that gym, outside of BE fans walked away thinking BE was a better team.

I'd like to see Holmes against both teams today. I think we'd see a different result.

And the 12 point loss to Ballard came with Rod Avery (15 ppg, 8 rpg) only playing 7 minutes. Play him the full game and let's see how things shake out. I think Ballard still probably wins, but not by double digits.

Holmes is talented enough to play with and beat any team in the state.
