December 30, 201411 yr It would be one thing if you are talking 1 or 2 games, but you are making justifications for 6 games and reasons such as "they always struggle with that team" or the "Bengals only beat them by 1" are not compelling. Basically, Romo was the reverse of Rodgers (he was 4-3 because did not play one game at home). Which is more impressive is up to the voters. I am not advocating for either, I am just pointing out that many are acting as if it should be a landslide for Rodgers and I do not see it that way. Since 2000, these are the scores from Green Bay @ Minnesota games: 33-28 GB Win 35-13 MN Win 31-21 MN Win 30-27 GB Win 34-31 GB Win 23-20 MN Win 23-17 GB Win 23-16 GB Win 28-27 MN Win 30-23 MN Win 31-3 GB Win 33-27 GB Win 37-34 MN Win 44-31 GB Win 24-21 GB Win That's 6/15 decided by 3 points or less, and 3/15 decided by 13 or more. It's a well known fact to all Green Bay fans, that no matter how bad the Vikings are, Green Bay will struggle when they play them on the road.
December 30, 201411 yr I'm a big Romo apologist as well. But I agree that he has had comparable seasons one maybe better. But the December stigma being ignored, playing through injuries and carrying the team during the mid to latter stretch sealed the deal for me. I also saw how pedestrian our offense looked with out him. How can Romo be league MVP when he isn't even the MVP of his own team. Murray has done more for the Cowboys than Romo. I don't think Romo has a prayer of even finishing 2nd, although you clearly make some solid and compelling points.
December 30, 201411 yr I don't think Romo has a prayer of even finishing 2nd, although you clearly make some solid and compelling points. MVP voting is tough because there is so much subjectivity. I doubt Romo has a prayer, and I am not necessarily saying he should win or be above Rodgers for that fact, I am just not seeing how Rodgers is a runaway candidate though that is the impression I am getting. Again, I would vote Brady but I am in the minority with that thinking.

December 30, 201411 yr ... A.T., did I see you "we" the Cowboys earlier in this thread? You're killing me!! :bunny:
December 30, 201411 yr I'll be a homer and say Ben should be in strong consideration. Led the league in passing. Took the team to an AFC North title and 11-5 record. Perhaps the outstanding talent of Bell distracts from it. Or his fun little past will always preclude him from such awards. Still, he's been a boss this season moreso than any others. 32 TD vs 9 INT 310yds/game Edited December 30, 201411 yr by spindoc
December 30, 201411 yr If Houston made the playoffs my vote would be for JJ Watt. But they didn't so my vote goes to Aaron Rodgers or DeMarco Murray.

December 31, 201411 yr How can Romo be league MVP when he isn't even the MVP of his own team. Murray has done more for the Cowboys than Romo. I have to disagree HB. If Romo goes down, the Cowboys are toast. If Murray goes down, they still have a decent shot. Heck, their back up (Randle) averages 6.7 yards per carry, a FULL 2 YARDS per carry MORE than Murray. Don't get me wrong, I like Murray and I think he is a stud. However, the position of RB is just not nearly as important as QB.

While true it cannot go unnoticed that for as long as Romo has been there it took a team record 1700+ yards from Murray(more in a season than Dorsett, Emmitt......) in order for Romo to FINALLY be able to enjoy success in December. It's like people want to give Romo the award for FINALLY coming through and if not for Murray, Romo wouldn't have came through. Murray's huge year is THE DIFFERENCE in the success that Dallas and Romo had this season. Having Dez Bryant on your team helps a whole lot as well. The MVP isn't a lifetime achievement award and I feel like people want to give it to Romo because he finally has a good all around team that actually makes smart decisions. Such as running the ball when up 10 points with 3 minutes to go in the game instead of throwing it 3 straight times and giving Peyton Manning the ball back to score on you, then Romo throws an interception and then Peyton marches down the field and gets the game winning touchdown pass. That happened in 2013.

Obviously it helps Romo (it helps ANY QB to have a great offensive line). The O line is why Romo has had a career year and why Murray has as well. I just think if you put Randle behind that line, he would be being called a great RB and would probably have 1,500+ yards as well...not as good as Murray but would be considered all pro material. If you put Weeden behind that O line, Cowboys are 7-9 or 8-8 and not in the playoffs. Also, I never said Romo is the MVP of the league - just the Cowboys. He is showing how good he is if he has other weapons around him - and like you said, he has a ton of them this year (Dez, Murray, Witten and the O line).

The Cowboys had all of those weapons last season but Murray's elevated play is the one difference this year. Murray kept Romo from having to do more than was needed of him and it kept their suspect defense off the field. Murray would be my choice for Cowboys MVP.

Honestly it would be a team MVP award with everyone playing their part. Romo, Murray, Dez, the line, everyone. But Romo has the slightest edge over Murray. Once again, see the Cardinals game.
