Here we go again. I bet race will be injected into this by the 3 stooges and they will suffer another defeat........0-4. The sad part about this is that the officer now has to deal with this for the rest of his life.

I'm with PP92 that I think things are going to get worse before they get better. At one time I felt it would blow over but that's not the case anymore.

 

Something big is on the horizon. I don't know what exactly but it is coming. My gut tells me once these protests/riots spill into middle class neighborhoods we are going to see some bad stuff.

 

Also a site I read mediaite.Com didn't help matters by their headline today about the video of the shooting.

 

I worry that there will be a no holds barred effect on the regular and average lawless thug minded idiots who just use all of this as a license to act out more so in their law breaking than they already do.

 

I live in Covington, and I no longer feel safe just going a few blocks to Kroger. The inner city Kroger is out of this world filled with scary people, and the surrounding streets is one crazy encounter after the other. The other night I drove 5 minutes to Kroger and 5 minutes back saying "Holy Crap" every 5 seconds the whole way.

 

I do thankfully feel safe in my little cocoon hidden far enough away from all the "excitement", but have to take a deep breath every time I leave.

 

Not every inch of Covington is bad, but the areas that are, are frightening and are filled with way too many people raised under horrible conditions, and a severe lack of education and guidance. Many learn early that since they have nothing, that if they want it, they take it, and don't think twice about it, and if somebody gets hurt in the process then too bad.

Looks like he clearly is raising his arm/hand towards the officer as if he had a gun in the highlighted portion of the video. If there was a gun I can understand why he was shot.

 

And that is all that I need to know, and in this case see. He raised his arm at the officer as if he had something in his hand. The kid was an idiot, and the proof is in the video.

As far as the body camera, like everything else concerning this event, we don't yet know all of the facts, and we don't need to know them today, tomorrow, or by this weekend, it takes time to sort it all out. But, I heard that something was wrong with the cam or something. Maybe Rocket or someone else can explain a bit more on department cams.

 

But the body cam I have, just like any other piece of electronics, things can mess up at times. You have to recharge them quite a bit, there is no battery that you can replace, mine has an on/off switch on one side, and an on/vox switch on the other, on the top is a button that when it's turned on for a few mins it blinks red, and when you start recording it blinks green. If I start recording after a full charge, I can get about 5 - 6 hours before the battery needs to be recharged. If the department doesn't have one for each officer I can see where there could be issues, one being it's not fullu charged when an officer starts his shift.

The mention of East L.A. sorta puts things into perspective. Compared to that Covington would look like Paradise. For that I have to be thankful at least.

Which just goes to show there are people out there that will take any opportunity they can to cause a seen.

It's almost hilarious if it wasn't sad all the Internet conspiracy theorist who are claiming the gun was planted and breaking the video down frame by frame . There is actual video proof and isn't enough.

 

The "protestors" don't believe the video. I'm so worn out anymore this is going nowhere.

 

Well duh why wouldn't they believe the deceased person did no wrong over that of the video and the officers side of the story. Clearly this young man that's now dead was a saint who had never in his life done anything wrong, it's hard to side with the officer under such circumstances. :deadhorse: :ohbrother:

I think the CCTV footage is more ambiguous than many are letting on.* From what I've read, people there are saying that there are 2-3 more security cameras much closer to where the shooting occurred than the one that captured the released footage, that the officer was equipped with a body camera (and either wasn't wearing it, didn't turn it on, or that there is no footage), and that the car's dash camera was either not on or the footage is not available. I have no idea how true any of that is, but it seems like a recipe for disaster in this environment.

 

*I am not alleging the officer did anything wrong, just that this video is extremely difficult to make-out.

 

IF the body camera or dash cam wasn't activated I wouldn't be overly surprised. Only time will tell but the reports are that he was there to do a business check when he encountered the two men. No reason for the camera to be on during a business check. I'm sure many will ask why he didn't turn it on. I think I'd be more focused on the man with the gun than my camera under those circumstances. Ideally it would've been activated but again all ANY ONE can do at this point that's not involved in the investigation is speculate.
