Police officer shot, killed overnight in Tarpon Springs; suspect in custody

Hmmmm, an African American shooting a whote police officer, yet I would be willing to bet this won't spark nationwide protests about the racial shooting. I mean it has to be racial right? It has to be seeing how every single black man getting shot by white police officer is racially motivated.

I take it Holder is enroute to Florida to bring civil rights violations against the African American shooter, right?

No offense and maybe splitting hairs here, but Marco Antonio Parilla sounds more Hispanic than black, and from looking at the pictures, I'm not sure you could definitively say one race or another, not that it matters.

What matters here is that an innocent man upholding his duty to serve and protect was senselessly murdered, that it's an unspeakable tragedy, and that I can't imagine what the family is going through. At least in this case, as opposed to the New York one where the perpetrator killed himself, the perpetrator here was taken alive and can face justice.

You can't really go by names, that's just silly. George Zimmerman sounds white but was Hispanic.

Yes what matters here is that a LEO was senselessly killed.

But you have to admit that if the officer had killed the man, the first thing looked at would have been race. Even though when it's this way race is never an issue.

I agree this isn't a racial case it is a criminal case. I think in almost all if not all cases of police involved shootings they are a product of crime and not race.

No way that is true. No way.
Not as far off as it may seem. A lot less people care these days than did in the past.

Just don't let the Pinellas County Sheriff near this guy. Gualtieri is not a happy man, regarding the suspect. That's putting it mildly.

Nor should he be.

Officer Kondek's funeral was yesterday.

Did they ever say what exactly happened here?

It doesn't appear that this incident was a planned ambush, like the NYPD cops, or Officer Ellis.

The suspect, in custody, is a career criminal and when he saw the police car, he just panicked and opened fire.

The guy who thought the suspect was at the apartment complex to harm him and who allegedly opened fire on the suspect after the suspect shot Officer Kondek, has been arrested as well. That man, also a convicted criminal, was charged with illegal possession of a fire arm by a felon.

I know there are people that do care, but

very few people seem to care anymore. It makes me sad.

Your right, very few care anymore, they see it as justice for all the wrong a few cops have done, just think it's part of what they signed up for and they should have known better. Because of a few lies all cops are racist and no one cares if they die or have families. What's sad is people who kill cops are immortalized in some instances.

I cannot agree Ref. The vast majority of people in this country still respect the police and don't agree with the Sharptons of the world. The minority is just very vocal and aggressive - but they are still a very small minority. In a country of 300 million people, if only 1% don't respect the police, that is still 3 million people, which is A LOT of people.

The problem is also those vocal few are the majority of whom the news networks are putting on the air.
